It's been hard trying to put together favorite songs by Tokyo Jihen and Shiina Ringo, for a variety of reasons.

-Can't sing along with most songs so I don't attach to lyrics/vocal melodies as quickly.
-Often can't associate anything about the name of the song with the song itself, deriving little to no meaning from the Japanese names or just not hearing the titles within the lyrics.

that said, I've been listening to them a ton the past 6 months and wanna give this a go:

    Shiina Ringo:

    1. Meisai
    2. Yokushitsu
    3. Yami ni Furu Ame
    4. Souretsu

    10. Marunouchi Sadistic (tie between original and Sanmon Gossip version)
    11. Oiran
    12. Ringo no Uta
    13. Tsugou no Ii Karada
    14. Ishiki
    15. Kono Yo no Kagiri
    16. Kyogensho
    17. Torikoshikurou
    18. Tsuki ni Makeinu

    Tokyo Jihen

    1. Genjitsu ni Oite + Genjitsu o Warau

I've listened to most of those singles you listed songs from, but not extensively (only 2-3 times). I do recall the songs being pretty strong; I should go back and play them more.

But yeah like I imagined people's favorites are going to be all over the map for SR's work. That's what happens when you record 150+ good songs.

it was fun going through my collection. I hadn't listened to them at all in years except for the latest one once or twice. I remembered liking Train of Thought a lot more though. Some of that was pretty hard to listen to. So angsty and alt metal.

You should get the Singles Box 1999-2003, it has most of her singles from that era. I discovered those singles through that collection and it blew my mind how amazing all those songs are.

Making that list was unbelievably hard, I really struggled with the lower rankings, because there were about 10 other songs I could've put there. Even now I'm pretty sure I forgot something.

I'll get on that. The only solo Ringo singles I've heard are Mayonaka wa Junketsu and Ringo no Uta.

yeah, Train of Thought hasn't aged well. production is pretty bad too.

Has any Dream Theater album aged particularly well?

(this was a snooty barb at Dream Theater being cheesy and lame. please do not use this as a springboard to a Dream Theater-based discussion.)
