I think its generally a bad thing, and continues the trend of MH games in the west having uphill battles to popularity.

Exclusives should be a relic from the past. Unfortunately, that's never going to happen.

on the 3DS side of the conversation (and wiiu too, but that hardware is not doing 3ds numbers right now), i think having a display dedicated to inventory/map at all times is great for the game

Hardcore action rpgs aren't exactly popular on 3DS (or what people in the west generally use handhelds for) and the Wii U has the smallest install base of the home consoles. It isn't about the second screen, its about the series once again not being given the best chance to thrive in the west. Its no shot to the Wii U, the thing is only a few months old, but if they really wanted to try and gain market they would put the game out on ps3/xbox/pc.

To the limited pool of Wii U owners, it doesn't matter how much it stands out if it only has 1/20th the number of devices in peoples homes.

I doubt a game series that is unpopular in the west will sell Wii U's here, it may boost sales in Japan though.

To be clear I'm more pissy at Capcom's retarded handling of this franchise in the west, Nintendo is good to get exclusives wherever they can with hardcore franchises even if this one is more tailored to a very small crowd here. I feel the news announcement of Monster Hunter is a bigger deal than an actual release here, simply because of how gigantic it is over seas.

Personally I just want the series to find its crowd here, and with Demon's/Dark Souls being successful in the west (and having a decent number of similarities) I know that Monster Hunter could be a successful thing here.... it just isn't being given a decent chance ever.... and the failure it will most certainly be will just reinforce the whole AMERICANS DONT GET THEM JAPANESE GAMES shit that persists with this series when the issue is mostly how poorly its been released and marketed.

yea I still have my 100 shares. It was up a nice amount leading to the wiiU launch on teh back of surging 3DS sales, but weakening Yen, and a general declining console market (combined with a not very smart/flashy wiiU launch, yes) hit it pretty hard. I'd say now's a pretty decent time to jump in.

maybe Monster Hunter is appealing when you have the time to upgrade your shit and learn proper techniques, but that demo sure isn't going to sell any copies

Monster Hunter games are hard, and the real joy comes from finally beating the huge boss monsters after 30+ minute epic fights. It is mechanically a lot like Demon's/Dark Souls in that you need to learn to defend, recognize the telegraphed attacks of the monsters, then wait for openings to attack to pick away at them.

Surely it isn't for everyone, but I still feel like the series would have a HUGE crowd in the US if it were just marketed to the same people who enjoy games like Dark Souls.

It is how I generally play them and I love it. But the online is a big part of it for a lot of people so I guess its person to person how much that will be important.

Having a good time with Runner 2. It's caused my Wii U to freeze a couple times when I close the software, and it seems to be a pretty common problem with people.

Haven't had that problem at all but have read about it and a patch is already in Nintendo's hands. Is your game/save file on external storage, or internal?

WiiU version looking beter and better. It didnt have off-tv play at first because they wanted to emulate the 3DS setup directly, but I guess they realized it wasnt necessary and made some concessions and can hide that dedicated gamepad view in a menu/overlay

Wow. The Pro Controller is a complete rip off. L and R triggers aren't analog. It doesn't vibrate. Neither of these things are actually necessary, but you might as well just get the Wii Classic Controller Pro for $20 instead of spending $40-50 on this.

some people like the feel of it, and I dont miss analog triggers. plus why would the triggers on the pro suddenly be analog if they arent on the gamepad?

I just wish it were the ps3 setup instead of having both sticks be the primary thumb positions. The dpad on it is also a bit disappointing. Not having analog triggers doesnt bother me, I don't know how I even feel about having analog triggers on my ps3.... for some games like racing..... and racing.... it works great but for just about everything else its pretty damn useless and in the way.

it absolutely does vibrate, I feel no need for analog triggers, it's supported in games where the classic pro isn't, and it can sync with mac and PC. I'm very happy to have it.

    Analog triggers are useless shit.

However I feel that the digipads on Nintendo hardware have been declining in quality since the N64.

YES. Right now only Sony seems to make controllers and devices with great digital direction pads. I'm so glad the 3DS primarily uses the circle pad because the DSi and 3DS pads are fucking JUNK.

I still like the D-pad and control layout over the Wii CCP, but I don't actually dislike the CCP layout, so I dunno if the extra money is worth it. Though, to be fair i guess, the CCP is only just an attachment.

i think the d-pad on the gamepad and the pro controller is fine.

d-pad is short for directional pad, right?

I got NFS last night. EA has it on their website for only $30 http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/pd/productID.251734800. Lego City and MH, well maybe. With MH I want to hunt with you guys and others but I also feel like if I'm not willingto really throw down some hours then I shouldn't at all. I remember my MH Tri days on Wii, and I just cant quite devote as much time to gaming right now

edit: damn I didn't quite read all the beef they used to beef up Human Revolution for the director's cut. haven't played the game. considering it

Once you are pretty familiar with how MH plays and works, it doesn't take nearly as much time to get up to speed and into some fun big battles. I don't think the time investment is as big for someone like you who played a huge amount of Tri for wii.

The GameCube’s D-Pad is far the worst. It’s way too small. You can easily make mistakes with it.

It’s probably as small as the one on the Wii-mote, but that one seems to have more resistance for it to work better, I don’t know.

Overall, I really don’t like the GameCube controller. The analog shoulder buttons are awkward, there aren’t enough face buttons and the Z-trigger is nothing like the N64’s.
