i remember when i was 12, i was a big fan of the angels because when i was 4-6 i watched "angels in the outfield" like 2.4 times a day, so when they won the world series in 2002 my brother and i were like FUUUUUUUUCK DFJIFOHEFIEPF we were ecstatic and the RALLY MONKEY OH MAN classic underdog story, classic team values story, etc. too bad they're nothing like they were now.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yeah 2002. I suppose I could say last year with the Lakers, but I honestly don't care enough about them to really get excited when they win the championship.
Newcastle last won "big" back in 1969, winning the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, which was renamed the UEFA Cup and then renamed again to the Europa League. Sucks to be a Newcastle fan.
2002 was the last time the SF Giants won the NLCS, although they haven't won the World Series since 1954.
Oh, wait, this is about championships? Okay. Boston Celtics: 2008 Boston Red Sox: 2007 Green Bay Packers: 1996
2008 Phillies ... the only championship from the "big four" sports in my entire life The other major "winning big" was the Flyers coming back from an 0-3 deficit vs. the Boston Bruins in last year's NHL playoffs ... Game 7 we went down 0-3 early, and I texted my mom "we will come back to win 4-3, game AND series". We did
honestly, probably never. cuz i enjoy pretty much every sport for the sport itself, and rarely ever cling to a particular team. i just like watching athletic competition at a high level.
West Coast last won the premiership in 06, that was by a point, and fucking phenomenal. We lost the grand final the year, prior, also. Never seen Liverpool win the league (I was alive, but I didn't start following until 98). Winning the champion's league in 05 was fucking immense, I've also seen 2 FA Cup wins, a UEFA cup win and a league cup win. Manly won the NRL premiership in 2008 by a record margin of 40-0, so that's the last big trophy from a team I actively support.
Green Bay Packers in '96-97 season... I was barely old enough to understand or appreciate football though it was pretty awesome when they won, but when they went to the Super Bowl in the next year and lost to the Broncos, I went home crying Can't believe the closest they'd get to going back in all those years under Brett Favre was the 2007 NFC Champ game... which again, everyone thought they'd win. =/
The Rangers just being in the position they are in now is certainly "winning big" compared to growing up watching them be a consistently last place team. If you're talking about winning "the big one", then I guess the '99 Dallas Stars
Probably the last 2 years, but basketball is ranked 3rd when it comes to sports I actually care about. The Ravens won the Superbowl in 2001, but that was before they were my team. But when USC KILLED, and I mean KILLED Oklahoma in 2005, that made me very happy. Also, Dodgers haven't won a World Series since 1988.
My high school bowling team won big in 2002. As varsity captain i led us to the championship match. We lost, but plenty of "winning big" before that
did some 3/10 suck your peen during the national championship or something as your beloved trojans LOST?
2009: New York Yankees 2009: Pittsburgh Penguins 2009: Pittsburgh Stealers 2009: LA Lakers 2010: Spain Soccer Team 2009: Florida Gators Football 2010: Duke Basketball 2010: BC Hockey Overall, it's been a good last couple years for me, though I'd say it's pretty tough to be a Yankee fan right now.
Gator football: 2008 (Freshman year). Before that, 2006, but I wasn't as much of a fan really. I wouldn't really call any other team I'm a fan of "my" team.
lol NASCAR Anyway, I was a big fan of the Angels from when I was about five or six till about 2004, then I sort of faded out of liking baseball, so I guess 2002. Only sport I like now is NFL football, so I guess it would be never.
Giants: 1954 49ers: 1994 Warriors: 1975 Sharks: Never (but I don't really care about hockey) Not really a Raiders or A's fan. I remember going to playoff games when the A's were actually good in the early part of the decade. Zito/Mulder/Hudson were practically unhittable. Throughout my lifetime, the only team I'm a fan of to win a championship was the 49ers in 1994. I was born in '91 though, so I don't even remember that. Since then, it honestly sucks to be a sports fan in the Bay Area. Except for right now, with the Giants and all that jazz. =)
2003 - Devils 2008 - Giants 2009- Yankees 2010 - Turkish bball team second place, good enough for me.
I guess the teams I consider mine are the ones are the UF and UM basketball and football teams, the Dolphins, and Heat. In which case: 2008 - NCAA Football 2007 - NCAA Basketball 2006 - NCAA Basketball 2006 - NCAA Football 2006 - NBA Championship (I wasn't as big a fan of the NBA as I am now though)
