So I'm out of soy sauce and really want some rice. What other kinds of condiments/things a poor college kid would have are good on white rice?
~ Make rice soup. My grandmother made it for me when I was young and I still make it to this day. Put the rice in a microwave bowl and salt, butter or margarine and milk. I don't use a lot of milk to make it real "soupy." Butter and salt to your liking. Cook in a microwave until it is close to or until it boils. It is very good!
In the lead so far. Have you guys had these things on rice before, are are you assuming it would taste good? Because I could see how some things (pasta sauce, ranch dressing) COULD taste good, but I don't know.
Well, the rice I have is the bastardized, leg-brace-clad boil in bag rice. I'm not sure how that would work out, considering I'd have to make the rice separately first. It sounds tasty though. GET SILLY
never tried the pasta sauce.. but to make Spanish rice you use tomato sauce... thought pasta sauce would be good.. its something i would try... its like lil spaghetti lol
Furikake, but I'm sure you'd have used it if you had it, heh. If you've never had any, grab some next time you're shopping. Helps make rice a lot less boring. I eat rice plain every day, but it's nice to have furikake around to mix it up. Kosher salt. Or just table salt if you don't have Kosher salt. Or, just crack a raw egg over a bowl of rice, mix it well, and eat.
If you wanna keep it simple, salt, butter and oil are your best bets. Otherwise, just buy some store-brand pasta sauce and frozen veggies to have on the side. I'm incredibly bad at cooking rice so I usually stick with pasta or noodles.
A bugger compels a father to fuck his daughter in his presence. Next, the father holds the daughter, the bugger sodomizes her; after which he informs the father that the girl absolutely has to perish, but that he has the alternatives of killing her himself by strangling her, which will cause her little suffering, or, in that other case, if he prefers not to kill his daughter, then he, the libertine, will do the work, but the father shall have to witness it all, and his child’s agonies will be atrocious. Rather than see her undergo frightful tortures, the father decides to kill his daughter with a noose of black silk, but while he is preparing to dispatch her, he is seized, bound, and before his eyes his child is flayed alive, then rolled upon burning iron nails, then cast into a brazier, and the father is strangled; this, says the libertine, is to teach him a lesson not to be so eager to choke the life out of his own children, for ’tis barbaric. Afterward, he is dumped into the same brazier wherein his daughter perished.
A little bit of chicken or beef broth would be fine if you're looking for something to make it less bland. It's also cheap as nuts.
Most of you fail hard in this thread. The correct answer is cheese and salsa. When I was living in the barracks, all I had were a microwave, toaster oven, and rice cooker, so my culinary options were limited to say the least. But one thing I would do which I took from my mom is to make "corn rice and cheese casserole". It's pretty much just like it sounds. You get a bag of frozen corn, some good rice, salsa (I like to use Pace since its nice and thick), cheddar cheese (and/or pepper jack), green chiles, cumin, chili powder, and maybe a bit of black pepper. It's pretty simple you just cook the rice, then add the cheese and other stuff and the already heated corn (drain it after you heat it so you dont get too much liquid). You can make as much or as little as you want, but you'll want a lot because it's addictive. *inserts picture of OJ*
secret ingredient that brings it all together? I'm kidding man. That recipe does sound good though.. I'm gonna have to try it.
Stir-fry the rice with egg. Adding soy sauce makes it a billion times better. Or buy a jar of some Asian chilli sauce for like $1 and mix that with the rice and eat it.
When I lived in FL we paid for 6mb connection and I consistently tested my speed at above 20mb, sometimes above 30...at every speed site. That was nuts
If you just pour some milk on there, that's basically what rice pudding is. It's sweeter and more delicious than you might think.
tuna + ketchup is one of my simple favorites. although I do agree with some of the above posts that furikake is good to have on hand if you're going to eat rice often.
late response but: butter and Spike© or Mrs. Dash© makes a bowl of rice come alive. try Jasmine rice though, 10x better tasting and about 1000x healthier.
