What's subjective is the "good" and "bad". There is nothing characteristic of good music, because it varies greatly from person to person, and conversely the same way. Saying there's a lot of stars in the sky is given, because there are many stars in the sky. You can count them. Saying a band is good, however, is not definate, accurate, or remotely true across the board, as that statement applies to only you, and your perception. But you're wrong...as stated above: Good and bad cannot be measured objectively concerning music, it's opinion; it varies all across your board. You are wrong. No you think there is better stuff, because it's your opinion that Weezer is not as good as other bands. I may not share the opinion, someone else may not share that opinion- it is not a hard fast rule that what you think is the case. The reasons I like Weezer better than "x" band, and like Weezer overall, is an answer that cannot be written on paper, because it's a feeling, as is anyone's attachment to a series of sounds. Your first statement is silly, and has no evidence to support it- so lets forget it. Overrated means, you don't like, and most other people do. That is the concept of word. LOL. Again, you missed the point. In normal circumstances, with other things being equal, level of technicality doesnt really matter. But considering weezer really has nothing to recommend them whatsoever (and its not that theyre the worst band ever, theyre just extremely mediocre, plain, boring, and pointless), without getting into the merits of Meshuggah as they relate to other stuff, at the VERY least, their music is stuff that anyone in a bedroom in their parents house couldnt write/play right away with no training or talent. But obviously that goes way over your head.

I agree with him regarding Weezer, as I can barely bear to listen to them, and never have done, despite friends playing them at parties etc. However, by arguing with their fans, and trying to 'prove' they're shit is just trolling etc. I mean, seriously - WTF is the point in telling someone a band's shit? Let people like what they want. It's much more productive to turn people onto new music they haven't heard than to try and make them hate something they love. Uhm, I did that in one case here, and it was because the guy said weezer are "original" which is clearly false, there was no other statement that needed to be made on my part. Personally, I would say making grandiose bullshit claims about bands is far more "trolly" than anything I have posted in this thread or any other. Weezer is one of those bands that I think suck but if I hear one of their hooks, it gets stuck in my head thus making me hate it even more.

It's not so much that they emulate specific bands, they are far too generic for that. It's just that they dont add anything of their own to music as a whole. It's like asking who do hootie and the fish blow emulate. You cant think of any bands, because they are just so bland that they relate to everything and nothing at the same time.
That sounds like you're trying to sidestep around the fact that you were wrong in saying they emulate other bands, because they don't. All while you conclusion is basically a contradiction of itself, lul.

Oh yeah, and Weezer was sweet for their first two albums. They were one of the most original bands of the 90s, and probably the 90s band that got closest to the spirit The Pixies were going for while still forming their own sound. The Blue Album is one of the best pop albums of the 90s, and Pinkerton isn't even pop so I have no idea where some people are coming from. If you don't like them, I don't give a shit. There are people on the Internet who think The Beatles suck; it doesn't shock me when someone goes and says "lol Weezer sucks." It's the fucking Internet. Who gives a shit. Let's stop trolling each other and go back to recommending bands and discussing music intelligently like MD is SUPPOSED to be about.
