Weezer has made some great albums. Pinkerton, Blue, and Maldroit are all fucking awesome. With that said, their last two albums have been shit.
Everything they've made is shit. I'm trying to understand what people hear in this kind of music. It sounds completely void and meaningless in my ears.
The first two albums are very good. I don't understand what's not to like in those. Edit: Well, I suppose I could--the singer's voice can grate if you're not in the mood for it, as well as the quality of the mix--very bright and loud, almost in your face obnoxious (at least on the Blue album). What I like about the first two albums is that on the surface they can appeal to your basic turn-on-the-radio passive listener, but the melodies/harmonies/hooks are quite a few steps above the average pop crap tune, and the lyrical content isn't hollow.
Definitely agree, really dont like Weezer much at all. Some of my friends (the type of friends who dont really take music that seriously) are into Weezer, but i always make them switch it off.
Pretty awful band. Their first two albums are far from good, a lot of people just paint them to be better because everything after it sucks so, so much. Overall, this band just sounds offensively insincere about everything they do. I've always felt they were at least partly responsible for the trend of using the term "alternative" to music that really doesn't sound "alternative" to anything.
This thread is pretty disgusting for the most part. Apparently nobody can appreciate well-written pop music.
i'm sure its partly a cultural gap between here and germany. i liked them (although havent' listened to them in 8 years or so) growing up. they were culturally relevant. if the blue album came out today i probably wouldn't like it much.
GOT A BOX FULLA YOUR TOYSSS. Anyway, TS, you're a moron. Weezer is the bees knees, though I didn't like their last album, the one they just put out is pretty solid, though I still like Blue and Pinkerton the best. Rivers writes some very catchy, effective, emotive, and memorable songs. If you can't enjoy it, then whatever, but to say it sucks because you don't like it just makes you a fucking tard. Go listen to moar metuhl.
I like their early stuff, but lately I haven't enjoyed them very much. They're fairly easy listening, but I can definitely see why they'd get on some peoples' nerves. Particularly more metal-oriented people who don't like their laid-back, simplistic approach to music and their preppy/nerdy attitude towards life.
I wouldn't go as far as to say they suck, as they definitely have some great classics, but they're certainly blown out of proportion as to exactly how good they are.
How is that? How good a band is directly related to one's perception of good, and that varies from person to person. When a large group of people think that something is good, then it is good that huge group of people. Just because you don't think they're as good as other people think they are doesn't mean they aren't that good or blown out of proportion, it simply means your thoughts don't align.
because they're fucking great? (well, not the last two, but still) is it really that hard to understand what someone might find appealing about this band? they play fun, catchy, well-written pop songs with fun, catchy, well-written lyrics. it's enjoyable music that sounds pleasing to people's ears.
what, is it suddenly impossible for bands to be overrated? Because that is essentially what i was saying. Am i actually wrong for thinking this just because my thoughts don't align? Or are we going to have to start going back to clarifying in each post that what follows is our opinion, and may or may not actually be the truth? So yes, we all know that music is generally in the eye of the beholder, so don't give me bullshit posts like this.
"Overrated", "blown out of proportion", none of these things make sense or are worth saying, because you can't quantify them with anything concrete. You measure them by your personal perception, which isn't an absolute. To say something is overrated is to say; I don't like this band, and lots of other people do. The entirety of the vocabulary used to critique, rate, and judge music is retarded, tbh. Lets simplify it: "This band sucks"=I don't like this band "This band is overrated"=I seem to be the only person that doesn't like this band Both these adjustments make you look like less of an asshat.
Weezer made a 3 good albums. unfortunately, they made three terrible albums too. so they're batting .500. /thread
I'm not sure why you are so bent on me saying something is overrated as being the same as saying that i don't like them. I also don't see the point in you showing me how me saying what i said is just personal opinion and not concrete. Most people are smart enough to understand that what people say here is a matter of their opinion when it is relating to music. Am i really not allowed to say something is overrated if i think it gets ratings that are over where I think they should be? And also, you're not exactly the first person I'd go to for advice on not being an asshat from what I've seen out of your posts.
