I guess I can try. It would just make me look like a frustrated guitarist. I was doing the pick-free sweeping to keep it more of a finger-based bass feel. This is sort of the method I'm going for. Watch 0:23 - 0:27 (and the whole video, this guy is fucking nuts): [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-g-LebN1qIg"]YouTube- Fritter Boy [Bass Solo][/ame]
So yeah. That method. It's tough. Also, I'm able to just finger pluck this shape: 15--13--12----------------12--13-- --------------13-------13----------- -------------------15---------------- ------------------------------------- How fast can you alternate pick this? (No hammer-ons at all). I'm able to do this at 160 at 16ths. A ton easier probably because I'm plucking each note. Just can't do the sweep thing. I'll have to work on using a pick...
That's an extremely awkward shape, jesus. That shape I just fiddled around with on an acoustic and not very. Maybe with practice. Take out the 13th fret hit and a lot faster though, not sure how fast exactly though.
Dave and Matt, seriously, thanks for taking the time to make those videos. Even if they weren't specifically for me I appreciate it and actually did get something out of them both. I'm also trying to hold my pick differently and I can already see a difference in my alternate picking speed and consistency.
Marko, I feel ya. I can't really get a solid downstroke with either my finger nail or the thumb. What I'll usually do is just sweep the upstrokes and then finger pick the downstrokes. I don't really use it too much, so I haven't really worked on developing it at all. If it's more than three strings I'll usually just tap everything.
I love doing that sweeping pattern Matt's doing there, one of only a few sweeps I've actually got down, still working on sweeping a lot
ya, and because things are easy we shouldn't do them and they aren't cool. you should do everything the hard way, and the hardest thing is the best.
You got all that from that? Sheesh. I just don't think it sounds quite as spread out as a 1 3 5 dim, so it sounds more like a scale than a typical arpeggio.
Thanks bebe. It's not processed yet, but I have to go to school so here: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYfkRcq88CA"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYfkRcq88CA[/ame] NafGorp, that one should help out you alternate picking too.
D over G sounds like Gmaj9 also dun dun.....dun digga dun........DUNNN david is it cool if i throw up a quick video later.
So MT is pretty civil, it's like a whole new 5/8. You guys are really talented, and even though I barely play, I watched your videos. Nicely done.
You should try a shred in Lydian Dominant. My favorite sounding scale by far. Still can retain that dominant feel, but tri-tones and passing tones for modulation work so much easier.
Here's a video on a few concepts I use when sweeping. I'm rusty as hell, because I practice like twice a year, so forgive the clams...but ya, possibly good ideas to consider/practice. My shitty mic doesn't help either, which leads to what i hate most (hear the first two notes and nothing else lol). Nice video Matt. I have a question about that Dm sweep. Do you use your middle and index fingers to hit the B,G,D strings or your ring and middle? That shape has always confused me.
