do another one on the formulas you make for patterns. I know you use like 3nps shapes most of the time, and do things like "doubling back" (I don't even know what you truly mean when you say that" talk about that.

maybe talk about what kind of shapes don't work well for speed picking.

I figured I'll do an ongoing series or something. But how do you think that was for a beginner's lesson?

my biggest problem when i speed pick is getting a consistent pick stroke on each note, and moving across strings

I actually learned from this. I'm big into shred on my 7-string (not to use in my own music necessarily, but I just enjoy doodling and practicing it on my own). -- I'll have to try that Yngwie lick you demonstrated.

There's a method of sweep picking (well, not really picking, hybrid tap strumming I guess?) that I CANNOT get past 130 BPM in triplets. I feel I'm limited because how much motion I have to use to execute it (have to strum with my thumb on my right hand, then mount my wrist to have a fulcrum to tap with my middle finger, then strum back down with my index). I find I can't tap accurately if I'm just tapping out of mid air with my arm just hovering over the guitar...I lose control if I don't have like my palm anchored on the bass somewhere. I'll have to upload a vid and show you what I mean specifically. Maybe you can give me some pointers on how to speed it up. Idk, it's really hard.

And, fuck, 3.0 MM PICKS??? I thought 1.0 was tough.

3 is excessive, but really you just need something that has no give.

    Well thank yuh.

I'm glad you got something from it! I actually want people to learn from them, not just show off y'know? Haha, and yeah...I use thick picks. I dunno, they're all I use these day, I love the thick sound they give my picking. It's a lot sharper than the average "thlick" sound of an average pick, listen maybe you can hear it, or maybe I'm just crazy, haha.

When I hold my pick, it's in the same spot of the index finger but perpendicular to my thumb, is that bad?

Could you do one on sweep picking though? I feel like I have the right hand down but my left (fretting) hand is a faggot.

I tried holding my pick like you said just for shits, and I don't really understand how you could sweep with it like that. It just puts my hand in this weird ass position and makes the tip of my index finger hit the strings along with the pick. I could just be doing it wrong though.

Do you use your wrist or elbow mainly when you sweep? I use my wrist, but a lot of people use their elbows, maybe that has something to do with it. Or maybe you just need to get used to it.

I'm just going to come and say the way you hold it doesn't necessarily need to be exactly like that. The important thing is that you have control of the pick, and very little of the point exposed, and that the angle you're striking is what realy matters.

That's definitely true, I was just showing how I hold it. However, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure almost all great pickers hold it that way, with exceptions of course.

they may hold it with those fingers, but I doubt the grip is identical.

I mean I can but I can only do the slower sounding ones (if that makes sense). 140 BPM in triplets is my fastest, being 100% clean and perfect.

I'm also on bass with no pick, so that's probably why I'm limited.

Why? It's one of the few logical ways to voice a dim7 as a sweep. You can't really get comfortable 5-6 string licks out of it, because of the shifting involved and odd # of groupings on strings.

Yeah. I learned the beastly five string dim sweep and got comfortable with it, so now I am more used to it.

Thanks, being fast is fun except sometimes I'll try to go nuts and hit like 17 NPS while picking and just come off like ass, and I can't really control it. That's typically when I'm not warmed up.

Fair enough, but I mean bruh, if you want to have clean sweep picking a pick would really, really help.

I'd rather you die on your way home and watch them in Jewish hell.
