This picking run has been challenging me for the past month or so, and I recommend it for anyone trying to further their picking abilities!

Yeah, it's DEFINITELY not something I could sit down and listen to for enjoyment, hence it being more of a warm-up excercise than anything.

However, Mark uses it quite effectively in the tune.

wow... if you told me that run came from somewhere in pat rondat's an ephemeral world album i'd believe you. both the style and the tone are very similar

    Feener:

I'm sure you already know this, but my comment definitely wasn't a dig on you. It was a dig on that particular song. It just seems like those shredder guys play all three notes per string patterns as fast as they can. I find it boring. You played it extremely well, though.

Have you tried learning some Bebop tunes? Dude, you HAVE the scalar shit down, why not try learning some tunes with bigger intervals? Try learning "Donna Lee," "Anthropology" or even "Confirmation" (all by Charlie Parker). You'll get much more out of practicing that stuff than you'll ever get out of doing that three note per string stuff, which you already got down, anyway.

    Just a suggestion.

    great job!

I hate the fact that you're about 64837 years younger than me and about 676383^10 times better to play than I am. :P

@Terminator: By no means did I take that comment as a dig! Although, there's in fact many things about this particular run that I find challenging. The thing is, it's not just your average three-note-per string run (though at those speeds it's hard to even notice or give a shit about I guess :P).

I've been getting alot more into "larger" patterns with regards to greater interval shifts lately, though. I've been incorporating alot more arpeggio work into my improv, as well as string skipping around on the patterns I've already established in each key. Hybrid picking is something I've always been decent at, but I've been using it alot more lately because it really does help when you wanna shift around into different positions quicker, which in turn only benefits when you're trying to stray away from the extremely scalar boring crap I'm so used to - besides the fact it offers a completely different sound when you want it.

Anyways, thanks for the comments guys. More people should give it a whirl, it's not something that's gonna drive you up the wall either.. it's fun!

Here's the song if you haven't heard it, I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND YOU LISTEN! The guy is a monster shredder, but only uses it to his advantage. Besides that, he's creative as hell! He makes even the most cliche progressions come to life!

He uses a Universe and Mesa Road King if I remember correctly.

Why do you have a korn guitar?

    1) It's cheaper than the Universe and It's the next best thing (In Ibanez, which I love)
    2) Last guitar in production with a Lo-Pro Floyd Rose bridge
    3) I like the look
    4) It Has seven strings
    5) The K-7 inlay doesn't bother me as it does countless other people
    6) Great quality guitar
    7) Love the neck, and especially the binding

It looks like it plays nice, but the K-7 inlay does bother me....The RG 7321 Prestige is awesome, and has a really good floyd rose too.

Who cares if he has a Korn guitar? He plays his K-7 better than any of the wannabes with Petrucci models who post on this board or posted on the old one.

Wow thats pretty awsome, I would try it but i think my mind would asplode... But it cant be much harder than the Erotomania shred can it? I can play that :D

Also Chris, or Mr. Feener, i have a request if you ever have time or whatever can you please record your self playing the end solo of your Primal Possesions? The shred happy one? I think you changed the solo at the end, cause i listened to the version on myspace and the solo is quite different. But I love the shred one with like... the bunches of sweeps.
