    Okay, a rule - if you go find the band on metal-archives and it says "black metal" somewhere in the genre description, it counts, unless it's an album like Darkthrone's Soulside Journey and it's clearly some other genre.

    It's not, but for the purposes of this thread it's a decent enough reference point. There's no other commonly-used source that can give us the necessary boundaries. Otherwise this thread will just turn into a massive fight over what is or isn't black metal.
