It's been three and a half years since 10,000 Days. Time for a new thread. From their Wiki page: Since their 2009 summer tour is over and we haven't heard anything definitive yet.. its safe to assume that they'll probably start the two-year writing and recording process sometime soon. I love their movie idea!! Like Pink Floyd and The Who... they wanna make a movie. Freaking sweet! Also I chose not to include "Opiate" as a studio album cause it was officially an EP.. but if there is a growing consensus that any upcoming Tool album will in fact be their "6th Studio Album" we can easily ask a mod to change it. Discuss.
I don't have any idea what I'd even think of hearing new Tool. They were one of my favorite bands a few years ago and I still have high opinions of them, but I never listen anymore.
Blair on Toolarmy said: "Adam and Justin started playing what I BELIEVE was part of a new Tool arrangement (NOT to be played on this tour), with what little I heard being somewhat reminiscent of “Wings”, having some fairly complex chord progressions. " Adam Jones in mid July said: "We are in the finishing aspects of the writing process for the new album." he is also doing The "THe Pot" video An album COULD be released mid-late 2010 (it's possible) a delay could be the coming puscifer tour and that Maynard said a perfect circle would do someting in 2010 (they have been writing) (I Want them to release some music so much) you guys should check http://www.fourtheye.net for tool related news
And I love how Maynard said a year or two ago that it wouldn't be 5 years in-between this time. Haha, yeah right.
I would rather hear a new APC album with all the original band members that performed on Mer de Noms than a new Tool album.
I love how that article basically says nothing at all. It's a whole 'yeah, maybe, no, yeah, maybe, no' piece. This just in: we have no idea what Tool are up to at the moment.
If it's just going to be another slightly different but not as good version of Lateralus I don't really care.
I find it really funny that anyone listens to anything that these guys say. How many times have they duped their fans before? "Maynard quit the band, he's a Christian now."
That was a funny April fools joke, especially the punchline: "So after an entire night of G.I. Blowouts, hot/cold sweats, and blurred vision, it's very possible that the guy I met wasn't even Jesus at all. For all I know, it was Willem Dafoe."
Agreed. I'm thinking at this point of their career, nothing too drastic will happen with their sound. Either way, it really doesn't matter if they come out with a new album to me.
their average age is about 44, i wonder how much they have left in them next album will probably be their last
or it could happen that they don't change their sound drastically but write some fuckin awesome songs. And unlike ,some people, i don't find 10000 days to be just a rehash of previous work. it has their style, but it's very different as an album IMO I will be completely interested in a new tool album if it happens, they wrote some of my favourite music ever. it probably won't be as great as Aenima or Lateralus though, especially seeing how Maynard doesn't seem that interested in tool, it probably won't be as inspired
Amen And I trust Maynard to come up with some amazing lyrics as always.. despite him being all into his wine and vegan shit now.
I don't really care about Tool anymore, but i don't think they will release a new album in the next three years.
It seems likely to me that the next Tool record will come out at the end of next year. They'll beat their five year turn around time by maybe... six months?
Yeah as much as i hate to admit it, Tool will probably go ahead and write another album which is like 10,000 Days in terms of progression stylistically. Lateralus was their peak and i don't ever see it being topped by them or any band.
at this point i hope they do something really outrageous and interesting. i liked 10,000 days but it seemed a lot of it was them playing it safe.
I hope this time around they cut out anything that could pass as a song and just release an album of filler. 10,000 Days was damn close. What was it, a 50/50 split? We need more stuff like Lipan Conjuring, Lost Keys, and Viginti Tres.
He's not trolling, some people found the more, shall we say, 'atmospheric' tracks of 10,000 Days to be filler and should have been dropped for actual songs. Tool have always had weird interludes but the amount on 10,000 Days was unjustifiable. Jesus christ it's like Tool are fucking infallible or something.
Thank you! When the 'atmospheric' tracks interrupt the flow of the album, they should be removed or replaced with actual songs. I'm not a huge fan of Lateralus, but at least those 'atmospheric'/interlude tracks fit.
Oh right so a slight exaggeration is trolling? It feels like half the album because it's so fucking boring.
well seeing as right in two sucks, parts of rosetta stoned are boring and the pot is kind of gay, that's like half the album right there
You can toss Wings part 1, Lipan, Lost Keys, Intension, and Viginti Tres without cutting into actual songs. So my mistake, 45.4545454/50 is filler. Rookie troll move on my behalf.
Agreed. The time has flown for me. If we're 7/10 of the way to a new Tool album (given a 5 year release clock) then I'm happy.
