Struggling at what? I thought this thread was "attempting to give actual advice"...why are you pressing on? Do you have "pretty pronounced psychological issues" or something? I hope it's just a persona. If you really want to keep whining to me, PM me. Don't derail this thread any more than it has been

This thread is awesome. Also I didn't go to the gym today because I was too lazy to wake up at 7 am. Fuck.

I went to the gym today and did some squats and leg presses, then left because there were too many old ladies and they were intimidated by my swag.

Alright, time to get this back on track.

I have started branching out to other machines after reading the diagrams and watching other people do them. Slooooow gains, but I feel a lot better overall.

    My newest questions:

    - After using the elliptical for the first few weeks, I decided to get back into plain old running. I actually ran a 5K on the 4th of July in 34:20, not bad for my first ever race. Anyway, since running is higher impact, I find that I am much more tired after 1 or 2 miles of running than I ever was with 3 or 4 miles on the elliptical. Is "only" doing 20 minutes or so of running going to hurt my weight loss, or does the extra intensity vs. elliptical sort of cancel that out? In other words, is 20 minutes running = 40 minutes elliptical (rough numbers), or should I push for the same amount of sustained time no matter what the exercise?

    - Similarly, have you guys found that it matters how much time you spend in the gym each visit, or should I just shoot for pushing as hard as I can? Lately it seems like I barely hit an hour of work, which makes me feel like an ass even though I'm exhausted. Should I be doing more than 3 sets of 10 on certain machines?

    1) It's really just calories burned. It's highly likely you're burning more running than on an elliptical, so it could be "equaling out" as you suggest
    2) I do not recommend being a slave to some rep scheme forever, but beyond that, the amount of time spent is good. 45-60 minutes of lifting is a good place to be

So, today was a "back and bi" day and I'm at a loss as to what else to do.

    I did:

    - 3 sets lat pulldown
    - 3 sets rows
    - 20 assisted pullups
    - 4 sets bicep curls (machine, not free weights)
    - 3 sets rear delt flys

Even though I was pretty wiped, this all took a total of about 20 minutes. With 20 minutes of running this had me out of the gym in 45 minutes. Am I going too fast or should I add more exercises? Or, is this okay for my beginner stage of all of this.

The fact that you're being able to pull off 14 sets in 20 minutes tells me that you're taking too little weight and too little rest between sets.

    sup guys

So I started going to the gym about a month ago because I was sick of feeling tired and shitty all the time and noticed I've been gaining weight when I haven't changed my diet at all (also I would rather die than diet so changing what I eat is out of the question). So far it's going pretty good, I've been going regularly, I've lost fat around my abdomen, my legs are toning up and I don't rely on coffee to keep me awake as much anymore.

I still struggle with cardio though, since it tires me out pretty quickly and I find it hard to do more than 40 minutes at a time. Am I doing it wrong, or do I just need a better routine? I usually do 15 on the cross trainer, 15 on the bike and 10 on the treadmill (lol weakling).

You could always do interval training as well as/instead of steady state.

That's like, 1lb per week which is nothing. Not the reason for the lol though. Congratulations anyway!

I'm doing pretty great, I think. I've worked up to 120 lbs. on the lat pulldown, which is a personal favorite exercise for me. I've also started bench pressing, and hope to start squats too after watching some videos for form and advice.

I'm getting stomach pains and starting to feel full after eating less food than I normally can. Is this from cutting or should I seek medical attention?

that could be any number of things...i could try to help if you provide how long it's been going on, what foods you've been eating, etc, but if you're really worried just go to a doctor

I'll give it a few days. If the pain is still there I should have a breakdown of my carbs/fat/protein to post. I think I might just be ill but my flatmate says he gets it when he's cutting as well.

i know i usually harp more on macronutrients, but in this case i'd actually want to see the foods you're eating.

    2 Wheatbix + milk
Tuna Sandwhich, packet of crisps, chocolate bar.
Some sort of meat based meal(currry or bolognese usually) along with pasta/potato/rice. I tend to get more calories from the protein than than the carbs.
Snacks are usually pears, oranges, apples, grapes, strawberries

Comes out at about 1400 calories. Some days I'll hit 2400 though because I've been out drinking.
