question about the political theater called the debt debate: didn't USA have a surplus before they cut taxes for the rich? so, in addition to shortening the lives of old/poor ppl, why not also let these tax cuts expire? yes the politicians' main constituents (old farts, welfare queens, millionaires, maquiladoras) would feel the pinch for a little while but who cares, cry about it.

It's a win/win for them. They get to look good in the media and cut costs at the same time. Prior to the change the consumer had a choice between 2.4 oz fries or 3.1 oz apple with caramel, now it will be 2.3 oz total and no dipping sauce, not to mention taking away the choice and standardizing will reduce some costs as well. The price will not change so they are charging the same for less, but no one will care because they're doing it 'for the kids', right?

What people forget is that it liebour that spends the money and then its the conservatives that have to try and save the money back again. Then as to make these savings tough decisions have to be made, the liebour lot in the unions go on strike as they panic their champagne lifestyle will disappear. The unions have to accept that the rest of the country is having to tighten all the belts and they are not going to be let off. Why should they?
