What are you working on? What are your past projects? What programs do you use? What VSTs/soundfonts do you use? I use Fruity Loops for sequencing and throwing all the vst crap together and mix everything in Cubase. I'm currently working on my second nintendocore EP, specifically the last track. It's a cover of Wish by NIN. I'm proud of myself for figuring out that "awwwww" static noise in the beginning. I'm just interested in what people are doing with this kind of thing but I'm sure this thread will go nowhere
Hey, I would like to point out that East West has a free version available of their Symphonic Orchestra. You get just a few instruments, but the quality is great, and it's free!!! http://www.soundsonline.com/free-orchestra I just bought Quantum Leap Goliath (East West). I use Sibelius 5, and some Audacity for mixing. I know it would be better to use something like Sonar, Pro Tools, or Logic for the latter. As a matter of fact, I can do just so much a time on my computer, as it ain't powerful. However, I couldn't ignore the huge discount from East West. So I can just use an instrument or two a time. Mano
I actually use audacity here and there if I need something edited up quick. It can actually be pretty convenient. Checking out this orchestra tomorrow.
got a myspace dude? my music is in the sig -- or go to www.themercurial.com for an article and the whole damn album (my newest one) i write using ableton live and plenty of controllers and synths and percussive goodies. i'd categorize my music as contemporary electronic, or psychedelic ambient dance music if you prefer <3
http://www.box.net/shared/78yzhzm8un That's something I threw together a few years ago. The sound clips of GWB talking were added haphazardly, but it kind of works. It's all programmed. Random synths, running through random effects, including guitar amp emulators, and then trashy drums mixed with sampled drums very low in the mix. Odd time signatures for bonus points.
I like using guitar emulators with synth. On the cover of Wish I actually used static and ran it through an emulated wah pedal and it worked perfectly. This is the current song I have, but it doesn't have vocals, isn't mixed, etc. http://www.mediafire.com/?m001mhmmtqn
That was really cool, nice one What programs do you use? - Logic Pro and Reason 4 nowadays, they cover everything I need at the moment. Logic is just a joy to use! What are your past projects? - Mostly cinematic demo stuff for film/moving image and computer games. Here's a rough little sampler of stuff I did between Jan and May '09. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zmw72OBS1E"]YouTube- Thomas Barnes - Demo Mix 2009[/ame] What VSTs/soundfonts do you use? - I have quite a few things installed, but mostly use: East West Symphonic Orchestras Gold (have plat but don't currently use it) East West Stormdrum East West RA East West Bosendorfer Spectrasonics Omnisphere Izotope Ozone 3 PSP Vintage Warmer Native Instruments Massive What are you working on? - Currently working on some Hip-Hop, some Pop/R'n'B type things and more orchestration type things to try and improve in that area.
I like the way yours is set up so I'm going to do it, too :3 What programs do you use? - Fruity Loops for sequencing synth and drums. Cubase for recording, mixing, and mastering. Audacity for a quick edit. What are your past projects? - I never really started heavily programming music until lately. I've used FL on and off since I was like 16 but haven't been as... "serious" about it as I am now. What VSTs/soundfonts do you use? - Synth: EZdrummer/Drumkit From Hell Kore Player (all kinds of cool synth) Magical 8bit (nintendo) The Peach (nintendo) Syntendo (lol) Cellofan (cello) Syntar (sitar, sounds GREAT) Takim (middle eastern drums) Effects/mixing/etc: Amplitube Metal (Amp/cab/stomp box modeling. I mostly use it for the stomp boxes to add to synth but I don't think I've ever actually used it for guitar.) FloorFish (noise gate) Autotune Lexicon Pantheon (Reverb) What are you working on? - Back to my nintendocore project but it's harder to call it that now. It still really heavy on the synth but not as much on the nintendo, but it's still there. www.myspace.com/electronicmusicbyhorses Here's some of my equipment: Audix OM2 mic Lexicon Lambda USB recording/midi interface A Yamaha keyboard my grandma found at a yard sale for $50. I'll check the model when I get home. Use that for midi. Ibanez delay pedal Digitech Grunge (lol) distortion
Quick noob question my friend (and I) want to know. How much money does it cost to pump out production value like this? [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4R1nl_UbSk"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4R1nl_UbSk[/ame] Talking hardware or anything that is unpirateable.
I don't think it'd cost as much as you think. A lot of it would be your skill in production, mixing, etc, and what you do with your synth.
Through Kontakt, I can't remember exactly but I don't think Kompakt works as an AU with Logic since they've replaced/upgraded it with the PLAY sampler.
What programs do you use? - Ableton Live Suite 8 and Audacity for messing around and editing samples. What are your past projects? - my main band, Citizen Loud, has been my chief musical project for two years or so now. I've done some work for theatre and remix work but, generally, I stick to my band. What VSTs/soundfonts do you use? - Ableton's Suite and some iPhone apps. What are you working on? - Citizen Loud stuff. I have hundreds of separate ideas. The trick is to finish them. I'm currently working on a strange industrial hip hop/post-punk track and an Afrobeat style number for the next release but I'm not sure if I'll ever finish them. I've also been playing around with some junglist rhythms for use at a later date but I don't know what will happen to them.
A guy comes into my workplace now and again to find books on Arduino, which is the basis for this small box device some guy in Germany makes. He uses it to control various products he owns from some Swiss or possibly Swedish company that makes drum machines and sequencers and stuff. If anyone knows the name of that box, let me know. It's driving me nuts that I can't remember what it is called.
No, it's just some guy on a forum who makes these by hand, I think. They use Arduino in order to get devices to talk to one another. The forum he is on is dedicated to this tiny Swedish or Swiss company that makes some infamous drum machines and sequencers.
What programs do you use? - Propellerhead Reason 4 for production and Goldwave for editing samples. What are your past projects? - My past and present project is All the Colors of the Sun. I've posted here all my songs, I'd appreciate if could give it a listen and give me some feedback. What VSTs/soundfonts do you use? - I use Reason's sounds, there's a lot you can get if you combine them appropriately. What are you working on? - Lately I've been focusing more and more on the importance of equalizing and compressing the sounds. My main focus was always on writing the stuff, now I'm trying to get better at making the music sound good (which can be hard, expecially if you use conventional instruments for your songs).
I'm currently working on a new song, made entirely in FL Studio 8. Would anyone be interested in hearing the latest working version?
That was some cool stuff, dude! If I ever record solo guitar stuff and need orchestration I'm going to you.
@Ubermega: I listened to The Hunted, it's a very nice song. The orchestration sounds pretty convincing and I especially liked the cello, with its appropriate aggressive attack needed for this kind of song. Post some of your latest works.
