while the vid doesn't do itself any favors by insinuating Reagan belongs in that list of good presidents, LO fucking L at Obama's conceitedness. he needs to get out of the White House some time and just stroll on over to the northeast and southeast quadrants of DC. maybe drive up the parkway and check out Baltimore. deluded, insulated, crony capitalist piece of shit like his predecessor.

I don't see how he can pronounce himself better than Reagan since they're essentially both the same douchebag.

I don't know what's more disappointing to me. That the democrats are too fucking stupid to realize that their messiah is a republican, or that the republicans are so fucking insane that their revered St. Reagan looks like John Lennon next to the maniacs they keep throwing out there.

Well, I think expectations play a huge roll in the disappointment from some. Luckily, for me, being old enough to have voted for Ronald Reagan in my first presidential election (hey, I was young, stupid and in the military, cut me some slack!), I knew better than to believe 1.) that he would actually be able to "change how Washington works" and 2.) that he run the country as a true champion of progressive causes. The United States is a center-right country. It has been that way ever since I've had enough interest in politics to pay attention (that would be about 30 years give or take) and the primary thing I was interested in getting out of an Obama presidency was getting some young liberals appointed to the SCOTUS. On that count, I think his first term has been a smashing success.

Other than that, he's a fairly typical corporatist Democrat.

While I still think Obama failed to deliver on so many promises and surrounded himself with all the usual suspects of lobbyists and the like, I have also begun to think that America really wasn't ready for a black president. He could have done so much more if he wasn't constantly having his authority challenged and his policies blocked by congress. I am much more inclined to believe that this opposition has not been motivated by any legitimate "Marxist" activity, but simple mistrust and the impulse to stand up to the black president.

They don't necessarily hate him, they just mistrust him and feel compelled to question his motivations and decisions to the point where he can't get as much done.

I question his motivations and none of my distrust has to do with the fact that he's black. On the contrary that aspect is one of the few variables keeping me from hating him in the way I hated Bush. It's a cop-out to say we turned on him because we weren't ready for a black president. That does a disservice to all the potentially great public servants and competent future presidents we will have who happen to be black, of which we will have hundreds if not thousands.

We turned on him because he's a con, not because he's a coon.

While I don't feel that the populace's (and Congress's) disaffection with Obama is entirely (or even primarily) because he is black, I do feel that he had more people against him from the beginning, and that, more so than for any other president, a significant portion of Congress decided to scuttle all the important legislation (like the healthcare bill) simply so they could point at Obama and say, "He's president and the healthcare bill sucks! It's his fault!"

This happens to some degree to every president, but with Obama it's been more pronounced than ever. It's partially because he's black, and the neocons decided they could regain power by pandering to the conservative base, but also partially because he talked such a big game in his campaign, and was viewed by many as some kind of political savior.

There have been plenty of issues that he's managed to mess up on himself, but he hasn't been anywhere near as bad as the GOP leaders try to make him out to be.

True and untrue. In many ways he's much worse. The GOP's reasons for hating and fearing him are insane. They should be embracing him, but they're too busy trying to keep the division bell ringing. Yet for plenty of people who don't jerk off to mental images of Sarah Palin, he's a remarkably bad president. He's done very little of the progressive stuff that was expected of him, and he's reinforced the worst part of his dipshit predecessor's platform.

Do you know how to read a graph? What this shows is a sharp increase at the end of Bush's presidency followed by a quick leveling off to slow decrease in Obama's.

It leveled off to a healthy 10% of unemployment, and decreased to an awe-inspiring 9.1% as of Feb. 2012.

And what policies of Obozo led to the rise in unemployment?

Just a reminder before you answer: he wasn't president until 2009.

Nowhere in my post did I say Obama led the rise of unemployment. It has been a downward hill since the 70's. The point is he hasn't challenged the monetary system or foreign policy in the slightest and he is just another status quo.

Yes he is, but your chart seemed to suggest that he had anything to do with the difference between unemployment in the Bush years and unemployment in the Obowmao years -- and the sharp rise in unemployment after the credit crunch of 07-08. I agree that he should have been addressing it right when he got in instead of selling us out to his HMO buddies.

LOL. Honestly, this graph only helps Obama. The graph suggests a increasing rate of increase as early as Feb 07, and I would say warning signs can be seen as early as Jan 05. It's the old "concave-up, concave-down" from Calculus 1. The 2nd derivative is a very useful thing for curves like this, and (smoothing out the small perturbative bumps) it is positive between Jan 05 and Jan 09. As a whole this graph suggests a huge success on Obama's part with regards to unemployment at slowing the rate of increase and turning it into a decrease.

Not since the great depression 7 decades ago has unemployment been able to break the 10% margin. Your vague mathematics hasn't proved anything.

By the same token, you can't thusly blame Obozo for an unemployment rate that, when ramping up towards its highest in generations, he had nothing to do with.

I would argue he had less to do with the 2007-2009 unemployment ramp-up than he did with the 2010-2012 recovery.

If the math is too hard for you, let me make it simpler. I take your Ayanami Rei doll and throw it up into the air, saying that I'm going to prove gravity exists. Since you're a lot taller than me, you catch it as it's going up. You state that since Rei is higher when you caught it than when it left my hands, gravity must not exist, else it would have gone down.

    Your argument is like that.
