Some good entries for sure. Voting ends on the fifth. If you do vote, please at least say why you voted for the person; nothing like a stroked ego.

BTW, I'm allowing multiple choice, because, well...I couldn't decide between a few people. Now, do try to stick to TWO people if you can, please.

I voted for you, because I felt you had the most consistency and flow to your lines, as well as some interesting technical things that didn't pull away from the overall feel.

I went with Mike W. and MistaMarko.

I liked Mikes quite a bit, good tone, ideas, phrasing, decent shreds. Good solo. :tup

MistaMarko because yours was just fucking awesome, dude. Very cool tone, different than the thousands out there on youtube which was cool, cool phrases and great technique.

    EDIT:

I also want to say that Born for Dying, Overtone and Rockett's were all really close runners up.

    Well thanks, dude.

I voted for Rocketlol and Mike Wazkzkziwksiso;slkadjfalksdfsd.

The former cuz it totally ignored the jazz convention that a lot of the others conformed to, and the latter cuz the tone was really quite nice.

With out sounding condescending, I've noticed that every single player here seems to have the same problem, and that's really bad flow. I don't understand why, but almost every single one has those weird like bend to an out of tune note then pause and look/sound like you're struggling for the next transition/idea and then repeat...

Is that a common problem among players? That's something I've never struggled with is consistent flow, however you like or dislike the playing.

I think it comes moreso from people who didn't develop on guitar by improvising all the time. A lot of the people I know on this forum, not specifically in this thread, built up their technique and musical sense just by learning other songs, in which case, they don't have to think of their feet so much as just play what they know.

That could have something to do with it. Especially if you're having to actively think about the changes, it can detract from actually keeping a consistent flow. Improvisation is completely different from composition and performing a prepared piece...worlds apart.

That's a good point. That's all like you and I have been doing for about four years now is Improvising over and over and over, and just in the last year, really have I been focused on writing real songs, not just Backing tracks to showcase my shreds.

For me it was the track. I could do a more "free" improvisation that flows decently but would be sloppy as hell. For recorded solos I like to come up with it piece by piece, kind of improvising, kind of composing, and it tends to flow really nicely, but that just wasn't working on this track... probably because it's such a long progression that goes back and forth too many times.

Yeah, I struggled with this BT as well. That was like my fourth take, and I'm still a little arsed at myself for the random underbends and such. Generally I'm not so picky, but gah.

How do I vote for an additional entry?

I think you deserved the vote, yours was the most enjoyable to me after wazowski's. Manbient's had some cool licks but too many missed notes and random ideas and didn't really pique my interest, and Rockett had that awkward tapping that ruined it for me.

I also voted for everyone else because I love dicking with multiple choice polls.

Mike, some awesome ideas in there and I really dig the tone as always but the bad notes are a shame.

Voted for BFD (my favorite one... seemed to fit real nice and it was pretty well executed) Cheddar (pure awesome), Mista Marko (another one that fit and was well played), and LV (big improvement... made the exotic sound work, plus some tight licks). The others were good too, especially MW's but those are the ones that made the most emotional connection.

    Can't wait for round 2...

ok true story, i admire really epic awesome players who do crazy stuff with super phrasing, but i am basically an art fag these days. I see any kind of playing an expression of emotional intent, or an idea of a feeling to convey. I tend to find that ultra technically skilled musicians (even guthrie) have about the same emotional intent as just about anyone who has a go at these kinds of backings. The fact they pull off a lot of things a ton better actually means very little to me, because i connect emotionally to it only mildly better. I don't get the "wow" because it's really hard to do. There has to be some sort of creative, emotional, artistic intent with just enough ability as is required to pull it off for me to get into it. "i'm going to play some badass licks" just doesn't cut it as an intent, no matter how fucking badass. I know it's just a backing, the point is to show off, yadda yadda, but i thought i'd explain to people why i just don't care about how well something is played if the idea behind it is boring, and about as innovative as cooking the perfect loaf of bread.

Yeah, in this format the voting is pointless. (I think voting, in general, for this stuff is stupid, but whatever.)

I also am guessing that a lot of people didn't even listen that closely to all of the entries (or even listen to some of them at all).

There might be better formats for getting feedback (which I think it more important than voting). For example only 3 people commented on mine, and I know there were others with few comments as well.

What's interesting is that often the best criticism of someone's soloing is that there aren't enough rests, and they just continue playing note after note when the solo would benefit from some breathing room. Many great jazz solos have numerous brief rests. The problem with yours and a few others is that the rests are awkward, and sound more like you're struggling to come up with the next lick as opposed to a natural break.
