    :D

Here we go again........I'll start by reposting the last thing in the thorbahn.net thread, in case anyone missed it:

Find out how many Wiis each of the Target stores around you will have!

No preorders were allowed at Target or Best Buy. That number is the number that should be available at launch.

There was a thread on the IGN Wii board with a list of ever single target store with the number available at launch, someone got it from a database somewhere - hundreds upon hundreds of stores. Someone just took that list and integrated it into a database used for that Google Maps plugin.

GamePro Q&A: Nintendo's Harrison on Zelda

    Source: GamePro

GamePro contributor Bones got a few hasty minutes with Nintendo Senior Vice President George Harrison, and revealed a few Twilight Princess secrets in the process.

Note: this is a rush transcript based on hand-written notes.

GP: How long is Twilight Princess?

Harrison: There are 70+ hours of gameplay -- it's significantly longer than Windwaker.

GP: What sorts of online features are you looking forward to in the future?

Harrison: Downloadable content, such as additional levels.

GP: Any plans for any type of post-release online component for Twilight Princess?

Harrison: I haven't heard of anything yet. I think everyone is still busy trying to make sure the game gets out correctly.

GP: What sorts of differences are there between the Wii and GameCube versions?

Harrison: There is very little difference in the graphics, although the Wii version supports 16:9 displays. In the GameCube version Link is a lefty, as he has traditionally been. All the fighting and puzzles are reversed because of this, and the game basically mirrors the Wii version -- even the cinemas are flipped.

The story is the same and it's basically the same game, except for the big difference in control schemes.

GP: How much will both versions cost?

Harrison: Both will retail for $50.

GP: Will the GC version only be available for sale online as rumored?

Harrison: No, it will be available in retail stores.

GP: When will the GC version release?

    Harrison: December 11th.

GP: What do you say to the Wii's critics who attack the hardware specs?

Harrison: Wii is trying to expand the gaming audience, and Zelda will provide the "wow factor." The Wii isn't a Lamborghini, but we'll sell more units. This console launch has more licensees on board than ever before, and developers are attracted to the unique gameplay possibilities of the nunchuku.

While we hate to report news that cannot be confirmed, it would be a crime to not alert our members to two rumors that have recently reached WiiLoaded.

First of all, Game Crazy employees may be telling customers that, even though initial launch shipments have already been allocated and will likely sell out quickly, major retailers will be restocked as early as the next day.

Would this be a smart play for Nintendo? Sure. The news of a sell out will increase desirability, and unlike Sony, Nintendo could fill the additional demand from the following day, all the way through the holidays.

Would this reduce the need to spend hours in line, just to get a Wii 24 hours before they are readily available? Sure. But those hours in line will be worth a day of bragging rights for some of us!

Rumor number 2? Another viewer has submitted an image of Wii allocations by major retailers, seen below:

News Article: Wii Startup Disc Required for Initial System..

    Planet GameCube

You'll have to insert a disc that isn't your favorite game when you first fire up your Wii.

Joystiq is reporting that a startup disc that is packaged with Wii is required when first starting up the system. While the reason is unknown at this time, there are several possibilities. Some people think it is a last minute firmware update, meaning that Wiis were being manufactured before the firmware was finalized. There is also the possibility that it is just a tutorial disc that shows players how to get started with the system. Given that the initial request is written to the screen in three different languages, it is possible that the disc only copies the files needed for the player's spoken language. This would help keep unneeded information out of the precious 512 megabytes of memory in the system.

If the disc is more than a system tutorial (which is very likely), this would prove that the firmware in the system is modifiable in some way and that this can be done with a disc. In order to update Wii units that aren't connected to the Internet, it is possible that Nintendo could release similar discs at retail or bundle them with games in the future.

For a picture of the error message, check out Joystiq's article in the related link field above.

10 Reasons to get a Wii over a PS3 this Holiday Season

    Source: Codename Revolution

Well the Holiday Season is fast approaching and two of the hottest video game consoles are about to be released next weekend. As many of you know, topics like this are bound to happen on either side so let’s take a look as to why you should get a Wii over a PS3 this Holiday Season.

    1. More Third-Party Exclusives: Red Steel, Rayman Raving Rabbids (timed exclusive), Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, GT Pro Series, Elebits, Metal Slug Anthology (Next-Gen exclusive), Dragon Ball Z: BT2 (Next-Gen exclusive) and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. This is compared to about four PS3 third-party exclusives.

    2. The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess on launch day: While some may complain that it’s just a “Gamecube†game, fans of the Playstation brand simply cannot wait for a PS2 game like “God of War 2?, which would be taken any day over the PS3’s holiday line-up. Those who recently got hands-on with Zelda are calling it one of the best Zelda titles ever made; better than the legendary Ocarina of Time, which is highly regarded as the greatest game of all time. With over 70 hours of game play and with a massive world to explore, it makes this game the greatest launch title ever.

    3. Wii will have 62 games ready for 2006: While 30 of them may be downloadable classics, the PS3 will only have 23 games in total for the holiday season.

    4. Wii has a variety of games available for 2006 for practically everyone: If you want racing for example, there are three games for the PS3 while Wii has Need for Speed Carbon, Excite Truck, GT Pro, Monster 4×4 and Cars; in addition to Victory Run and F-Zero for the Virtual Console. PS3 has mostly hardcore titles for 2006.

    5. If you love old-school: The Wii will have 30 classics from Zelda, F-Zero, Mario 64, Sonic, Gunstar Heroes, Bomberman, Bonk’s Adventure and more. PS3 is expected to have two downloadable titles.

    6. Price and Supply: The Wii priced at $250 is a great deal and those who find the PS3 price ($500-600) to be too costly, should get a Wii to experience a new way to play games first-hand. They can later decide to purchase a PS3 when the price has gone down. This way they don’t miss out on gaming this holiday season! Wii will have 1 million Wii’s available during launch in North America compared to 400,000 PS3’s. There will be plenty of supplies for the Wii during the holiday season, while PS3’s will not be able to meet demand.

    7. Same games with Prettier Graphics on PS3: There is another Madden, three NBA games, Tiger Woods, Genji etc. While some of the games will utilize Sixaxis technology, it’s simply more of the same with prettier graphics for the holiday season.

    8. The Perfect Video Game Gift: With the Wii at $250, it’s the most affordable gift to give your friends and family for the holiday season. The bundle also includes Wii Sports and the downloadable Opera Web Browser. Currently, 38% of Women play console games. The Wii offers ease of use and a sleek design with games that will appeal to Women; whether its Trauma Center or even Wii Sports. What other way to have your girlfriend involved in gaming?

    9. Small, Quiet, more Portable, Power Efficient and Fast Loading Times: The Wii is the size of three DVD cases stacked on top of each other, making it the smallest “mega-console†ever. Although it’ll have fans built-in, it is designed to be very quiet. You can place the console horizontally or vertically and because of its size, it offers better portability than any other console to date. The console is also 20% more power efficient than Gamecube and has the ability to stay active while the console is turned off by using only the power of a miniature light-bulb. The Wii will offer blazing fast load times and if the console is turned on while a game disc is still in the system, the game will run almost instantly. Between many areas in game, it may even take just three seconds to load.

    10. Revolutionary Control Scheme: Sure High-definition games look fantastic, but no other system will offer such a gaming experience; even if the PS3 has Sixaxis technology. Swing the controller as a baseball bat, wield it as a lightsaber, use it as a pointer for more accurate shooting, jerk the controller to kick a ball, scroll over characters and position them in a real-time strategy game, steer it in a racing game, use it as a bow and arrow with the nunchuk and more! While it may have rumble, you can also customize the controller with attachments like a steering wheel or a golf club. Every Wii title in 2006 will utilize such technology.

Before I made my first post in this strange, but soon to be inviting, new home, I knew it had to be in a Wii thread. So I thank you, Lmn8r.

Continuing with my Wii impressions series, I went back to Nintendo World today and played a few games that I hadn't on Saturday: Monkey Ball (single player story mode), Red Steel, and Wii Sports Baseball. There was much less of a line today, so I got in some more Excite Trucking because that game totally kicks ass.

Monkey Ball (story mode) - Woah. First thing you're gonna think when you begin controling AiAi or whoever with the wiimote is "joystick was better." But like all good enw things, it's a little scary and takes 5 - 10 minutes to get used to (depending on your gaming ability to dynamicly adapt). They help facilitate the shift too, throwing VERY easy levels at you in the beginning. The main thing to remember (with many Wii titles), the wiimote is more sensative than you will initially expect. Played a boss too. I liked how they incorporated boss battles in this game, rather than that horrible monkey ball adventure game that I don't even wanna think about. All-in-all great fun, can't wait to get my reserved Monkey Ball.

Red Steel - Walked up to the game like most, skeptical about how smooth and intuitive the control would feel. Walked away a believer. I honestly can't understand how people can play dual analog FPS games anymore. How are people gonna pop in their beautiful looking Gears of War or whatever the hell that PS3 launch FPS is (that doesn't look very impressive) and then sluggishly fiddle with joysticks till their target (which is unrealisticly constantly steady and centered) is positioned correctly? This game is fun and, most importantly, IMMERSIVE. When you reload you hear the sound of it coming fromt he wiimote, and that sounds like a cheesy gimmic, but it aint. Its just one way that the game pulls you in. There's a 5-10 minute period of getting settled in control-wise, but any seasoned gamer will get it quickly. And those new gamers that Nintendo is trying to grab will take just a bit longer to get it, but their progression should ideally go something like: fiddle with menus -> Wii Sports -> Monkey Ball/Wario Ware/Raving Rabids -> Excite Truck/any racing game -> Zelda/Red Steel/whatever. Onyl got to do about 1 minute of swordplay before I was booted off. It aint 1:1, but it's still fuckin fun. That rhymes and it's mine. Seriously though, it involves a good amount of strategy, quick reaction time, and significant dexterity. All part of the immersion. This also became a launch game I'm getting after playing it today.

Wii Sports: Baseball - Not too much to say. Swings are almost mapped 1:1, timing is key. It's not just home-run derby there are fielders but they're all AI. Pitching is cool: select pitch type with d-pad then make pitching motion (long or short) and the speed of your motion will effect the speed and motion of the pitch. Good for just kickin it, rockin some simple fun.

Had tons of fun once again. Before I went on Saturday I had two game preorders (Zelda, Monkey ball). Now I have 2 more in Excite Truck and Red Steel. I think I shouldn't go back, unless I wanna be broke before the holidays.

PS - I made a "joeshabadoo" name, but it said I had to wait for an email confirmation and I never got it. So mods, if you could send joeshabadoo's account a confirmation email, or just verify his account, I could put this one to rest. I wouldn't mind sticking with it, though.

Thanks for the impressions - I was really wondering about Monkey Ball. I was a Monkey Ball on Gamecube addict (yes, I got to master mode  ) and am worried that I'd be too used to a controller to adapt.

I'm gonna head by Gamestop tomorrow after work and see if they have a kiosk set up. If so I'll be back with impressions for sure!

Denis Dyack Has No Plans for Wii

    Source: IGN

Don't hold your breath for a sequel to Eternal Darkness.
    by Daemon Hatfield

November 3, 2006 - Silicon Knights, makers of Eternal Darkness, are readying the forever-in-development Too Human for the Xbox 360, as well as an unannounced title for the PlayStation 3. Speaking to the San Jose Mercury News, the company's President, Denis Dyack, says the next-generation systems are virtually identical in terms of power.

"The 360 and the PS3 are equal in power in my eyes," Dyack says. "Maybe the PS3 has more processing power. The 360 has more available memory. It's pretty much a net, net. The public perception of the PS3 was that it was much more powerful. To developers, they look even."

Silicon Knights had a working relationship with Nintendo for several years, making Eternal Darkness and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes for the GameCube. That partnership ended in 2004, though, and Dyack says he has no current plans to develop for the Wii. Too Human is planned as a trilogy for the Xbox 360.

Persoanlly, I'm getting Zelda, Red Steel, Monkey Ball, and Excite Truck. With the Wii Sports pack-in and possible VC purchases, I will have more than enough Wiiness to carry me over into Q1 '07.

Probably Zelda and Monkey Ball here, unless my opinions change if I get to play the system before launch. Monkey Ball was a launch game I got on Gamecube and ended up being one of my favorite games on the system.

About eternal darkness - Too Human has been in development since the PSX. Dennis Dyack posts on the IGN forums a bit and seems like a cool guy, but they seem to be more interested in technology than fun games. We'll see though.....

I never finished Wind Waker. Wind Waker was my first Zelda game... (I know I am late to the party). I am afraid that 70+ hours of gameplay will never be achieved by me... As awesome as it looks, what good is it if I don't get half way through it?

I do have Ocarina of Time, I got after Wind Waker. I have barely played it because my N64 isn't attached to my big screen.

I will probably have about 3 or 4 hours a week to play. I guess 70+ hours (not including the downloadable content) will take me forever to do... and I heard it's much more difficult than WW. Not that I thought WW was hard. I got a room I can't fend off all of the enemies, and got frustrated...

OK, I just moved to Atlanta down by Tech and have no idea about anything around here. I've had coffee with some artists from the Cartoon Network, though... they apparently like to hang out at the coffee place I go to. A friend of mine was there and a group of guys were there working on a story for Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

I got my Best Buy Launch guide... pretty well done.

Don't forget the IGN Wii Launch Guide, either. Every week, a new section goes up.

New studio will develop games exclusively for Nintendo systems.
by Micah Seff and Matt Casamassina

November 7, 2006 - Today, Buena Vista Games announced the formation of a new game development studio dedicated exclusively to the creation of games for Nintendo platforms. Located in Salt Lake City, Fall Line Studios is focused on developing games based on Disney characters, television shows, and entertainment properties as well as creating entirely new intellectual properties for the Nintendo DS and Wii.

Fall Line Studio will operate as a sister studio to Avalanche Software, another Buena Vista Games team based out of Salt Lake City. The newly opened studio will focus on small-team projects built around usage of the Disney brand. Former general manager of Rainbow Studios Scott Novis has been chosen to serve as vice president and general manager of Fall Line Studio.

"This studio will be one of our centers of creative excellence and it gives us the ability to fully capitalize on our properties and expand our market share on Nintendo platforms," said Graham Hopper of Buena Vista Games. "Scott Novis brings the perfect mix of team building and relevant business experience to the position of studio head for Fall Line Studio. "

Buena Vista Games has historically been a huge supporter of Nintendo platforms and is currently the number three publisher of Game Boy Advance titles in North America.

Fall Line marks the fourth development studio that Buena Vista has purchased in the last couple of years - part of the company's ongoing plan to cut back on outsourced game development and instead make the software on its own. In addition to Fall Line, the corporation owns Avalanche Software, Propaganda Games, and Climax Racing. Disney has a wide array of brands to draw upon, from Mickey Mouse to its more recent hits from the Pixar family, such as The Incredibles and Cars.

However, the company's plans to internally develop Pixar-branded videogames may have to wait as publishing giant THQ owns the game rights to the next four Pixar movies.

"It seems like with our brand, the Nintendo platform is a really good place to put our development effort," said Fall Line head Scott Novis.

Disney's Chicken Little is the first game from Disney to hit Nintendo's new console. It is developed by Avalanche Software and is scheduled for release in December.

Yeah, I guess you're right. At least try the game out somewhere though. I haven't played either of the two Zelda games you mentioned, but I have played others, and they are great. [/run on sentence]

It's not that I don't like Zelda... it's that I will never finish it It is the premier game to get at launch, no doubt. I still may get it, but I already know I won't finish it...

I know what you mean. If I tried to play the game it would probably take me half a year to finish. What can I say, though, I plan on getting the GameCube version... I'll bloody well try to finish it.
