Oh wtf, I didn't know they had a new album out. I don't remember much about the other one, but this song sounds pretty cool. More importantly, I was looking at videos on that guy's channel and figured out that Lantlôs put out a new album last year. .neon was incredible, looking forward to listening to this one.
Yeah, listeners will inevitably saying to themselves "oh that's black metal, that's doom, that's psychedelic, that's ambient" but it's a very un-self-conscious album and works surprisingly well for incorporating the range of stuff it did.
I've been really getting into English black metal right now. The English always do their metal a little differently and I especially like the way a lot of their more trad BM bands (not counting Fen or other postblack bands here) really have more of a classic heavy metal/Venom-like feel at times, but it's not just a rip-off of first wave BM. Winterfylleth is pretty great, as is Wodensthrone.

yes i fuckin LOVE winterfylleth, thanks to the co-op farm crust punk with dreds for recommending them to me
just listened to that A Forest of Stars album i bought last week. good shit. now i'm revisiting The Axis of Perdition: Deleted Scenes From the Transition Hospital, because i downloaded it years ago when i wasn't in to black metal, and it was recently mentioned in a metal thread on another messageboard. pretty cool stuff so far (this is why i never delete anything ever).
hey this album is pretty tasty so far. not as atmospheric as i usually like my black metal, but this is grooving pretty hard.
this album is also really solid, thought i'd make mention since their discog is a big daunting (and spotty at times).
yeah they're like the Natural Snow Buildings of black metal. digging this right now: sweet atmoblamet.
This new White Medal track is fucking awesome: http://soundcloud.com/deadsection/white-medal-skratjes-lane I think their earlier stuff sucks, but this was definitely a positive surprise.
i can't find it anywhere. oop, nevermind, my favorite self-important melo-dramatic misanthropic lo-fi black metal blog has it. YES!
Anyone have any recommendations for Black Metal that's similar to the below? Barbatos, Hot City Bitch Midnight, Endless Slut I don't know why, but I really like the combination of simplistic street punk melodies with the venom/bathory sound. It just sounds amazing.
YES that Barbatos song is what I thought Bone Awl would sound like from descriptions (before I actually heard them)
So, after a difficult Monday at work I went to the music store and actually spent money on two new CDs blind, which I haven't really done in years. One of the discs I picked up was Negura Bunget's Focul viu. I've only heard OM before that. I hope it's good.
Yeah, Bone Awl are a form of Ildjarn worship; they definitely figured out how to create great energy with minimal variety of components, but they don't have the same hypnotic effect of as Ildjarn. I dunno if this is because they couldn't figure it out or didn't want to have that effect, regardless, the effect is that they seem like a rather vicious form of 80s hardcore, like some mutant proto-grindcore band. That Barbatos track is wonderful, though. Aside from other projects of Yasuyuki Suzuki, the only band's I can think of that combine melodic punk with driving metal are Absurd & Driller Killer, with the former mixing in Oi! & the latter d-beat.
Yeah, I love Absurd already, although the stuff I've heard (Facta Loquuntur) is almost completely punk/Oi with a few traces of black metal. There should be more stuff like that. Not into d-beat at all, but I'll check Driller Killer out.
I've only two works by Absurd; 'Der Fünfzehnjährige Krieg", wherein in they re-recorded some old songs, so it functions as a sort of anthology. The other album is Asgardsrei, which is ruined by the production; the vocals overpower everything else, the guitars absurdly thin, yet, for some reason, the cymbals are pushed to the front as well. A really frustrating listening experience.
you are a black metal addict. figured I'd post this here, local band from my area (Rapid City, South Dakota). atmospheric black metal, Wolves in the Throne Room style..
I saw them play live a year ago and I am 90% positive the first album is pure WiTTR worship. The newest one was pretty awesome though, I really enjoy that. Good form on buying them though, I bought the second one and I got a neat poster with it.
they were $8 and $5 and the artwork on the first one looked amazing. i sent them $15 to help with postage. also, you say "pure WitTR worship" like it's a bad thing.
Got a Drudkh album in the mail today. I haven't opened it yet. I'm not sure if it's the new one or Forgotten Legends; I ordered both. Either way
anything wittr is never a bad thing. i just mean that their second album is waaaaaaaaaay better, it has Sage Moon on it.
I'm digging through Peste Noire's non-album material trying to find some gold. I like what I hear so far. (WTF @ cover art)
