^ Barring injury, Fleury has the pedigree, the talent, and has shown he can play extremely well in tough situations (Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals, for example). The risk is not high, but just right. He has all the makings of a great goalie to be.

The Penguins sign Satan & Fedotenko to one year deals. Not bad at all, especially if Satan (and I believe he will with Crosby at center) returns to his old form.

    Satan is solid.

He needs to wear #6 though, so that it'll show a 6 on both arms and on his back :tard

Sharks sign Rob Blake. 1 year, 5M.

Gross overpayment, but San Jose has the cap space to afford it and it's off the books in 1 year. Plus, what else are we going to do? Trade for Boyle? If we went the Boyle route, we'd not only be paying 6.6M/year in salary but we'd have no way out (NTC) and would have to trade away probably at LEAST Carle, a mid-level prospect and a pick just to be able to over-pay him.

Rangers announce that they are going in different direction with Jagr, so that rules out one team.

I thought of that but dismissed it quickly after recalling some of his other subjective and laughable analysis posted in this thread.

Sure, like your "game, set, and match" comment about the Penguins losing Conklin. That had much to do about the Penguins spending millions?

Seriously, you can't help your Devils loving self to be objective in your analysis.

so i have to post every comment with objectivity and must not be a fanboy just cos i feel like it once in a while, got it, so when i predicted that you didn't have a shot at the cup i was wrong. anyway old man, you can say whatever you want, i will post comments and people know when i'm saying it out of fanboydom or objectivity and i don't bother being a fanboy when i'm talking about a goalie you will miss when your precious fleury has an injury or a dissapointing season this year.

they were ranked among the top teams to move along with predators yesterday on some espn article about the supersonics moving, i wouldn't be surprised with the way that owner does some stupid shit to undermine the dynasty they once were.

    Sharks trade Carle + Wishart + 1st + 4th for Boyle + Lukowich.
Sharks trade Rivet for 2 2nd's

I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. It gives us one hell of a blue line this year but might bite us in the ass down the road.

Right now, our D is probably something like this:

    Boyle - Blake
    Vlasic - Ehrhoff
    Murray - Joslin

    Lukowich - McLaren (trade block)

At least one of Lukowich or K-Mac will have to be traded in order to sign Ehrhoff and Clowe (RFA's).

"The Penguins have signed Finnish forward Janne Pesonen to a one-year contract the team announced on Monday.

Pesonen, 26, led the Finnish Elite League last season, with 34 goals, 44 assists, 78 points in 56 games with the Oulu Karpat. He had 7 goals, 9 assists during the post-season, helping lead Karpat to its fifth league championship.

"Pesonen is a quick, skilled player that has had much success in the Finnish Elite League," said Penguins general manager Ray Shero said. "We look forward to watching him perform at his first NHL training camp."

Pesonen has won four league championships with Karpat and was the playoff MVP in 2007, recording seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) in nine games."

    Definitely worth the investment risk.

Reference to the Pitkanen for Smith deal the Flyers made last offseason.

Granted, Pitkanen didn't exactly have great success as an Oiler.

It's happened before. So long as their goaltending remains in question I still think they may be paper tigers.

But, in the southeast, just about anything better than an E-league pickup team can win.

The KHL is a joke. They're demanding 1.5M in compensation for 'developing' Filatov now. I suppose Pittsburgh owes Rimouski a shitload for Crosby then.

It would be absolutely hilarious if NHL teams were to demand compensation for 'developing' players like Emery and Jagr. Or if these player's parents demanded compensation for creating them.

Probably not. The best way for goalies to develop is to play lots of games. If the Devils had to use a prospect to play the backup role, that prospect would barely play and wouldn't develop as well. This way that same prospect can be a starter in the AHL playing many more games.

San Jose did the exact same thing with the Patzold/Greiss situation last year.

Well, it looks like the IIHF is going to force Radulov to void his KHL contract. I'll bet he's gone once his current NHL one expires though, he obviously doesn't want to stay (at least, not in Nashville anyway).

Am I the only one who thinks all this KHL stuff is going to make the 2010 Olympics really fucking epic? All the defected players playing against/with NHL players. Guys like Emery and Neil possibly getting citizenship and playing for Russia...although honestly I don't think either of them could make the roster.

What I'd like to see, in a couple years once the KHL gets on it's feet, is another summit series. Best of the KHL vs best of the NHL. It would be lopsided as hell but still pretty cool.

i honestly really don't give a shit about olympics, seriously. world championships matter more than the olympics, and the only reason the olympics could matter is because they are in canada, how gay are the olympics now? useless.

^ I'd amend the above to say I don't give a rat's ass about INTL hockey in general. There are six real powers (Canada, Sweden, Russia, Finland, USA, Czech Republic), two or three consistently decent and everyone else sucks. Bores me to tears.
