It might be a stupid thing to say, but I'd rather live in a society where it's common to tell people what they are or what you think they are openly, where more people openly state what they think instead of keeping it for themselves, and where keeping your mouth shut because someone might not like it is discouraged. If people often said stupid things like this more often they wouldn't be stupid any more. If one US senator calls Hu a dictator that creates tension between the US and China and makes it awkward for the US side, and someone might have to lick his ass with diplomacy. But if many politicians throughout the world were calling him a dictator it would be awkward only for Hu himself and China. They might even be inspired to change a policy or two (unlikely, but still). I don't like diplomatic ass licking.
