I work at a hotel. This COOOOOUUUUUUULD be possible. I mean I could get at least two rooms at a 45 dollars rate. AIM or MSN me grungeisdeadbbkf(@hotmail.com for MSN) and tell me why you are awesome and why I should give you a 45 dollar rate in case I can't get a group rate.
I say this because in all honesty it might be hard to get a good group rate in the middle of August and this isn't a cheap hotel.
Awww, man. If I weren't saving my money for my trip to Denver in June/July, I probably would be able to make this. Boooooo!
It wouldn't take much. Tell them you're planning a reunion, you have maybe 15-30 guests from out of town attending and you're looking for a group rate. Shop around - it will save the hassle of trying to billet everyone at someone's house. Given the number of people who say they will attend, this is the way to go.
I'll keep that in mind. Not everyone on the list is going to come to the Lancaster one, though... some are just interested in NYC. And I feel like having to shell out money for a hotel room might turn some people off from coming, while just staying at our places is both free and could be fun/lulzy. Fuck, Travis. Awesome.
Also here's what I think I could do. As of now the hotel is empty. The normal rate is like 150 BUT I think if I talked to my manager and I'm an employee MAYBE I could talk her down to maybe between the 60-80 rate. MAYBE. This would include up to five people in a two queen room so you could easily split in and three in a king bed room. Every room has wifi, a coffee maker, microwave, and fridge. It includes a continental breakfast. Breakfast includes waffles, donuts, eggs, cereal, bagels, toast, juice, coffee, and oatmeal. There's probably more but I forget. I'll try to talk to my manager and see what sort of deal I could work out with her.
I'm thinking maybe if I agreed to come check everyone in and not get paid for doing it maybe that'll convine her to give you a decent rate.
Would definitely go to the Comfort Inn over other places locally... it is indeed a nice hotel. And the continental breakfast is awesome. You can make waffles. WAFFLES.
Does your hotel also have a hospitality room that the 5/8 group could rent Friday evening? Much better than a random bar; you could even have a hotel supplied waitress. They get money, the group has more fun in a controlled atmosphere. Something worth considering, in any event.
This might shape up to be a great option. If it turns out being something that'll work, then anyone who's interested should totally say so in this thread. It would definitely take away from the burden of us having to house everyone. And yeah. This.
We do have a breakfast room with 25 chairs and cable in it. Usually it's 40 bucks for 4 hours but if we have a whole group in we don't charge for it so they have a place to sit. I think it'd be really cool to get a bunch of beer and sit around there for a while. As long as no one gets mad trashed and makes too much noise in or around the rooms I really wouldn't see a problem.
It would be worth exploring this option. Be clear with your manager as to what is likely to happen (nothing too extreme in any case). Also check out other hotels as there may be a better choice for the group. Edit: Someone also should be working on the NYC end of this. Same incentive: "We want to book a group of rooms for 30 people" . . .
I'd basically tell her it might get somewhat noisey but we'd keep that in the bedroom. Getting noise complaints at the front desk is possibly the most annoying thing about this job. That's why I'd want noise to stay in that room. It's off from the rooms and I don't need the front desk getting all kinds of calls. That's seriously annoying.
Travis, do you think other hotels in the area might actually have better rates than the one you're likely to get us?
As far as New Holland goes: The Hollander: it is incredibly dirty and probably doesn't have the space for a group. The Country Squire: Doesn't have the space, shitty staff. The Denver Comfort Inn: Better rates but it's dirty, smells like curry, and has horrible and rude staff. Best Western: Probably doesn't have the space for a group. Ephrata Hampton: Expensive. Waynebrook: Waaaaaaaay too small Holiday Inn Morgan town: Has the space but expensive That's some of them. The Lancaster Heritage hotel may be worth looking in to. I'd say the Columbia Comfort Inn but.. Well... It's near Columbia. Lancaster Hilton is mad expensive. I see stuff like Days Inn and hotels like that but in general they're kinda gross. The Quality Inn there I also hear is disgusting. But again, please wait until I check with my manager.
Fuck that. If I'm spending my hard-earned $45/night on that place, they better make my waffles for me.
seriously. it was funny the first time, and the next few times when it was saved for months until a situation arose where it would be clever to use it. now it's just retarded.
