It's inevitable that Peter Jackson is going to piss off about every person that expects these movies to mirror the book.

This is Hollywood. People are going to see these movies expecting more LOTR. It's going to resemble those movies.... ALOT. I'm sure PJ can't keep that in his pants.

This is the second article I've read on the subject and it seems to me that this is simply new technology that people just have to get used to.

I'm actually interested in seeing a film with this technology and I can't see it ruining the movie for me even if I dislike it.

I'm not too worried. The 2D screenings are still going to be in 24 fps, so we can always go back to that version if the 48 fps version sucks.

Really? The 48fps version is only with 3D? That sucks. I was looking forward to non-3D 48fps.

you know what, why the fuck not? If the movies are of the same quality as LOTR, then I don't really care that they're milking the franchise dry.

The third film is going to be a fanfic about what happens in between The Hobbit and LOTR so who the fuck knows if it'll actually be any good.

Yeah, judging from what Jackson says in that link, he plans to take a lot of the lore that's mentioned in passing in the book and actually commit it to film. Hopefully it doesn't suck.

still have a lot of doubts about this. It seems like they're bringing way too much of the LotR context and lore into this film (or films). The greatness of the Hobbit is the fact that it's such a fun little self-contained adventure so it will probably annoy me if they throw in a bunch of foreboding references to the greater LotR universe.

The Hobbit is about the size of an LotR book, and the LotR appendixes are about half of that, though not much in them is very usable iirc. So think about it like this:

    SE FotR= 4 hrs
    SE TTT= 4 hrs
    SE RotK= 4

    Now think

    >The Hobbit + Appendix Material= 5 hours
    >Divide by 3.
    >That's a trilogy of like 3 90 +/- minute movies
    >PROFIT for new line cinema

I'll never understand why my work computer lets me quote some posts and not others.

I meant in the Tolkien realm... But yes, my post did not insinuate that at all. My bad. King Kong did suck, it had it's good parts, but overall horrible. PJ is the best man for the Tolkien works though. I have complete faith in this decision. Whether it's a money grab or not, it will kick ass. I would have been happy if each LOTR book was 3 movies.

first of all King Kong owned wtf

second of all, I can't speak for everyone but my concern isn't that the movies will suck...i'm sure they'll be high quality films. My concern is that they won't be true to the spirit of the book. they're looking more and more like a LotR redux with every bit of news that comes out about them, and I just think if that's the case then what's the point? (besides money)

There is a lot in the LOTR books that were and could be left out for the movies. In The Hobbit there is a lot I would not want to be left out.
