Yeah but supposedly Malick is working on a 6 hour cut. I'm not huge on redundancies in my collections. And if there's another cut it will be packaged with the original, then I will have a redundant package. I also wouldn't rebuy something in Criterion if Criterion releases a version. Take traffic for example.

The supposed 6-hour cut is pretty much urban legend at this point. There were rumors of the first cut being 6 hours long, then when it came out people started screaming that there was a "director's cut", but trust me ... Malick is known for shooting A TON of footage and then just cutting it (see: Adrian Brody's part in The Thin Red Line). I wouldn't hold your breath.

Hey, you know what's a good movie? Mr. Arkadin. Check it out if you like that sort of thing.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Hulu is working on adding the entire CC and making it available to plus subscribers. They already have probably 200 titles on there now. Gonna drop my Netflix subscription and sign up for this.

We include advertisements in Hulu Plus in order to reduce the monthly subscription price of the service. Premium content — especially from the current TV season — is not only expensive to make and license, but we also want to compensate our content partners fairly for the valuable entertainment they provide.

Hulu Plus offers what no other streaming content service on the market today can: current season episodes of popular shows like Glee, House, and Modern Family, and full series runs (all episodes from every season) of popular library shows. To see a full list please go to Hulu Plus Content page.

We have found that by including a modest ad load, we can keep the price for Hulu Plus under eight bucks, while still providing users with access to the most popular current season shows on the devices of their choice.

We're continually working to tailor the ad experience to your interests in an effort to make the advertising you see on Hulu Plus more relevant and useful to you.

I'd just download amazing rips of Criterion films and put them on the big screen.

So I couldn't figure out what to get next after Videodrome so I got Godzilla (not a regrettable purchase. I am, after all, the biggest Godzilla fan on here). Anyone wanna suggest some creepy or weird Criterion dvds to purchase? I wanna have a list ready in time for their June sale.

Are the Special Features good? I have seen it but I would buy it if it had some great Criterion bonuses.

A whole bunch of CC movies are around $25 on Amazon for Blu-Ray, but even that feels like a LOT. Gonna wait til the next B&N 50% off sale.

Does anyone own Island of Lost Souls CC on Bluray/how is it?

Also, I think I'm the only one who thinks 39S is overrated. And I'm a huge Hitchcock fan.

I've got it... transfer is great, movie not so much.

I'm not the hugest fan of The 39 Steps either. It's good, but doesn't compare to other early Hitchcock like Strangers on a Train.

I fucking love Strangers on a Train. I only recently saw The Lady Vanishes (I always avoided it for some reason), but for my money the original Man Who Knew Too Much with Lorre is the best Hitch you can get during the British era.

Man, I love Diabolique too. It's probably the favorite of my small bluray collection.

Signed up for the Hulu bullllshiii. Even if I have to watch commercials, $8 to stream Criterion whenever/wherever is worth it. I have a week free, if the commercials are overbearing I'll cancel but it's worth a shot.

The absolute best part of the collection is that they do pristine restorations/transfers of films.

HD streaming doesn't happen in 1080p.

No, it happens in 720. I wonder how they restored DVD! Oh noes!

The point is, Criterions are so expensive that buying these films solely based on artistic merit gets fucking unreal if you're popping 25-40 bones on a movie you might not even like (see: Kiss Me Deadly). If I watch the film, and like it, I can easily go buy it and view in 1080.

This is pretty much the point. Watch the movies, see if you like them and if you like them buy them so you can watch them in the highest quality.

Insisting on only watching the blu-rays on your HDTV is like only listening to new music releases on vinyl.

Except most music is recorded digitally these days, so the correct analogy would be "only listening to new music releases in FLAC", which many people do.

I'm with Taco. I pretty much exclusively buy what I want to watch. Usually blind buys, but I do research and have an idea that I might like it. If something seems really out there or is extremely expensive I'll probably watch a bit of it first, but not the whole thing. Sort of like reading a chapter of a book before you buy it.
