Criterion recently listed upcoming releases of Soderbergh's Che, Rossellini's War Trilogy (Rome Open City, Paisan, Germany Year Zero), and Wender's Paris, Texas. Can't wait for that Rossellini trilogy.

Aside from Che, those are essential, essential films. In terms of picture quality, Paris,Texas remains one the best dvd transfers I've ever seen. To have a Criterion release of that would be pure bliss.

Every movie I've seen that has a Criterion release available, I've liked... but I've never seen an actual Criterion transfer...

My curiosity is aroused; I'm getting Spartacus right now.

Hey guys. I went to Barnes and Noble earlier to buy Wings of Desire and my girlfriend (who works there) told me not, because
50% OFF CRITERIONS STARTS NEXT WEEK AND LASTS FOR A MONTH, and I was like oh shit. Not official yet, but I'm pretty damn sure this sale is going to happen. I thought I'd let you guys know.

Criterion blu-rays are usually around $30 at Amazon/Best Buy. Now you can get it for less than $20 brah. Last time they ran this sale, I was getting dvds cheaper than ebay and Amazon marketplace. It's a good deal.

The things you'll save the most money are the boxsets. They're usually $60+ at Amazon. Now you can get them for $40.

The new Kurosawa boxset looks like a shoebox. Here are some pics from a pamphlet I picked up yesterday:

I'm still considering to buy it. :ponder

Before I clicked through to "Cyber Monday" deals that are starting today instead of tomorrow. Those pages I just linked might be longer than that actually.

Monsoon Wedding is one of the best Criterion releases I've seen in a while, along with Gomorrah. Still need to watch A Christmas Tale. Fuck you Criterion for draining me of funds month after month.

Between me and my brother we easily have over 200. He's been buying them since he was about 18, so 10 years ago. I started my collection about 5 years ago.

In April this year, I had just 12 Criterions. Now I have over 150.

I just found a mom & pop video rental store recently near my school with tons of vhs and rare dvds. They have a crapload of OOP Criterions including the Killer, Hard Boiled, This is Spinal Tap, Blood for Dracula, Flesh for Frankenstein etc. :hyperglee

I just watched Seven Samurai from the Criterion... such an awesome movie, and such awesome quality.

Do like these... have about 15 to watch now, whenever I get time.

Yes, my library is also awesome like this. The Criterion Collection defined my summer. There were days straight of movies.

I was on the CC message board (lol nerd) and they said that they probably weren't going to do any huge BD releases like this because they want to work on individual releases...or something. So you probably did the right thing here.

But this sucks because now I have to talk myself out of spending $400. Before I could say, okay, when I graduate, I'll get a BD player and the Kurosawa set. Dammit.

I own one actual CC DVD (Chasing Amy, used, $3) and have a few single layer DVDs ripped from the library. lol no money

Seven Samurai is and individual release. Sure it had three discs but it's still one single release of a film and some extras. I know it's more likely they'll be working on individual BDs rather than big BD sets (until BDs are commonplace and the Criterion BD library is large), and that's what I was fretting over. I'm sure Seven Samurai is one of the most requested Criterion BD projects, so it can only be a matter of time before they do it.

oh, my bad. I misread your post, I thought you bought the shoebox. They said they weren't planning on doing the 25-disc set in BD.
