AAL being wayyyy underrated in this thread. There are some seriously well developed musical ideas on that album, and Tosin's phrasing is seriously godlike. Some of the songs do devolve into less interesting shred-fests, but I urge everyone in this thread to take another few listens to see if AAL clicks for you. I feel very strongly about that album's awesomeness.

I love AAL's album. I agree with the whole "academically appreciating" thing, and even though I don't listen to it anymore I still hold it highly. Still, when I first heard it I listened to it exclusively for almost a month.

There's really nothing special about it, honestly. Yeah, Tosin is amazing and has chops, but his ideas are just pretty under-developed in my opinion. That's not to say the album isn't amazing, as I said. He tries too hard to have these weird voicings and inversions 100% of the time and while it's unique, it's sort of detracting.

Expecting to like it but not have much of a desire to listen more, based on those samples. I like Tosin so we'll see :)

I was exceited about this project when I heard about it.

Then I heard that unmastered song and I was less excited.

Now I'm listening to the album and I am experiencing excitement once more.

Somewhat surprisingly, it's better than the last AAL album.

i dunno, it's not bad, but probably a little too much contemporary jazz noodling for my taste.

    It's on Spotify now too.

The drumming and vocals make me wet.

After hearing people shitting on Trioscapes, I gave this another listen... Much better the second time around. Both projects are pretty kick ass.
