It's always been an annoyance to me whenever I find a fun, lighthearted, possibly unsubstantive thread/topic and start posting in it and enjoying myself, only to have the thread closed and my fun taken away within the first few posts.

Fine by me dood. I'm all for lightening up - it's only when things get to a personal/grudge type level that I get bothered. Honestly, if you guys are cool with it, give me a week to show you that I'm up to handling this maturely, efficiently, and most of all consistently. A lot has changed in two years, especially stuff that was previously considered a problem re: the meds stuff. Turns out my meds were actually making me worse, go figure. Doctor fail. Anyway, that's another story another time. I'd like to at least show to you guys by doing, not by telling, that I'm not as bad as people think I am, and even if I step down after a week, it is what it is. I'm not on a power trip, I'm not power hungry. I just want to do my part to help out.

The only reason that you're even in the position you're in right now is likely solely due to antipop and blackcat calling all the shots. I'd say it's safe to say that if those two weren't in "power", you'd never be in any administrative position here. I have no idea how you plan to overcome that kind of opposition, or if you're even planning to do so. Of course, if you're not planning to do so, I'd have a hard time believing you care even the slightest amount about the community here that has been the centerpiece and backbone of this forum.

Anyway, whatever happens, I'm probably gonna stay on these forums until whenever I want, but I strongly suggest you unban ogre and make amends with him as soon as possible.

I'd say you're both right and wrong about the trust - there seem to be plenty of people here who trust me just fine, and that's not just the mod staff. It seems almost entirely to be most of the IRC crew that doesn't trust me - but I do have to say the IRC crew has been around for a long time and is heavily involved and throwing that aside is unreasonable at best. It's a small portion of the overall user base with regards to sheer numbers, but it is a very tight core portion. I can not and will not discount the involvement of that core group.

I do plan to overcome the opposition. How? Well, that remains to be seen, but I certainly will try. Needless to say if I don't overcome the majority of the opposition I'll cede without argument. As I said, at this point I stepped in simply to pick up the slack. What happens next, we'll see.

I understand your position on Ogre, but please try to understand mine. I've explained it several times, but for the sake of completeness for anyone else reading this I'll explain it again here. The issue between him and I started a very long time ago. Yes, we'd made amends and then shit got crazy again, and the process repeated a few times. Shit happens, you move on and that's that. I'd be willing to make peace with him if he's willing to make peace with me, but so far that doesn't seem to be the case; he wants things his way or the highway - and if I'm wrong about that, I'd gladly talk to him, and provided he's civil about it I'll be civil as well. If he's not, the conversation will be over and that's that.

Regarding me banning him, I was trying to avoid a giant mess - what ensued afterward realistically is probably similar to what would have ensued if it were handled differently. The fact is, it was handled the way it was handled. That can always be reviewed, and it will, but consider the following: what happened almost immediately after the ban was a direct denial of service attack, and due to the timing I made an obvious connection - but freak coincidences happen and I'm well aware of that. Bottom line, if I see something like that on my network I immediately add drop rules on the perimeter firewall - shoot first, ask questions later - note that I'm talking specifically about the network attack, not about any personal issues. Due to the high volume of traffic it's hard to isolate where a distributed attack is coming from, so I naturally didn't mess about with firewall rules. As I've said elsewhere I have almost no way to prove my suspicion due to the distributed nature of the attack, so after this I'm going to let it go. On top of that the attack has subsided, so that's done and done in my book.

I have a feeling I'm missing something, but I'm tired and probably should hit the hay. If I think of it I'll post it for sure.

If he stays true to that (lol Ogre) then I'm personally fine with it. Sure is no Vizui/Elmo/Blackcat/ etc etc.

I will say, about Ogre, I will be re-evaluating my decision tomorrow and will post the decision here. Personally, I don't think he'll be banned for a month. While I'm sure some members would like that, I think a month is excessive.

I'm unemployed and have nothing to do with a lot of time past 4 or 5, when I can no longer look for jobs and most of my friends are busy with their jobs and such. Lol, why do you ask?

Mathboy - to add a bit to my previous post that addressed your question. My biggest goal right now is to help find a middle ground moderation wise that keeps the majority of posters happy. Naturally some people will bitch, but you have to do the best that you can. The problem that's been arising lately is a lack of consistency - sometimes things would be acted on harshly, sometimes things wouldn't be acted on at all. I want to figure out a plan that (hopefully) will work, put that into action, and of course refine over time until there's a moderation routine that fits and works nicely... I strongly believe it can be done if the entire moderation staff really gets together and figures things out. I've been lurking around a lot lately and just watching and taking note of complaints as well as moderator actions and I have a few ideas up my sleeve. We'll see if they work - I'm really hoping they do. This place, despite being a mini 4chan at times, is a great place. It has great people, it just needs to be handled appropriately for the people that inhabit it.

That's not the same thing, and I don't dislike you/you don't particularly annoy me as a poster.

I didn't just say "YOU'RE A BAD MOD" and leave it at that, I specifically stated a couple of cases of bad judgement that consequently got people banned and I said that you close threads a bit too much, a point that someone agreed with me on and is perfectly fair. I've thrown down like 3,000 words on this if not more. Some of your infractions and thread closures seem harsh and random, whereas sometime you let things go that is pretty objectively worse than something you infracted.

A good example lies in the threads made tonight, when people were just going off with slurs and few personal attacks and got away with it, yet you banned chrono for a week for saying something small about about Mexicans in a lighthearted thread and getting banned for a week and banned Techun for making a joke (that made pretty much everyone laugh) about black people and gay people in a lighthearted thread.

All of that is bad moderation. You've gotten a bit better lately. Now please, leave me alone, I'm trying to rub one off and you're making it really difficult.
