    Hi all,

My dad is looking for a game to play at nights. he is out in a working camp in middle of nowhere and has nothing to do at all evenings. He likes games, but he doesn't know what to play. I can't think of anything off the top of my head... Some suggestions would be really appreciated! Here are some rules:

    1. It has to be really easy because he is like 55 and hasn't gamed much in his life.2
    2. Simple as well.
    3. Free
    4. He has a new laptop, but its pretty cheap and wouldn't run anything amazing
    EDIT:
    5. He has no friends so it should probably be single player, although online with strangers might work but would need to be easy.
    6. Can't be anything stupidly repetitive and simple like Solitaire, or Minesweeper. Obviously that would not keep a 55 year old hard working man busy for nights!

    Any thoughts!?

The Sims(the first one) is probably an easy game he could enjoy that would run on his laptop. It's not free though and I don't even know where you'd get it. A quick google search made it seem like its not as readily available as one would think. I didn't look that hard though.

But yeah as far as video games go The Sims is generally considered one of the easiest and most accessible games in history. An old man could pick it up no problem.

He also wouldn't be an old man then, he would be a young girl.

    Mortal Kombat.

Even if its a Facebook game, fine, but suggest me one. I have tried pointing him in a direction or two before but they have always ended up being shit after 10 minutes. I think he like Warcraft 1 and 2 back in the day, even if he didn't make it all that far.

Cool thanks! It might be too advanced for him, but I will suggest it. I am also not sure what he has for a mouse, but he could get one.

Well, if he has a laptop, the touch pad should be fine.

Our schedules conflict. I think an offline game would probably be a better game. Something that can provide him with a sense of mastery and fun while killing time.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I think he would get bored with tetras pretty quick unfortunately. Try to imagine a 55 year old dude playing it and see how far you can take it.

Dude set him up with some point and click adventures.

    The Longest Journey
    Gemini Rue
    Siberia
Monkey Island games (there are nice remakes of 1 and 2)
    Broken Sword
Beneath a Steel Sky (free on GoG.com)
    Machinarium
    Blackwell Legacy

All of these are designed more for adults with good stories, and anyone can play a point and click adventure... JUST STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM MYST GAMES THOSE PIECES OF SHIT.

Beneath a Steel Sky is free here: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/beneath_a_steel_sky

The rest aren't, but most of them are also very very cheap. There are a lot of other good point and click adventures (especially older ones from defunct companies) that are abandoware, and you can search around and find downloads.... but you will probably have to run dosbox or scummvm to get them to play.

If there was 1 game I wish more people had played it is The Longest Journey. One of the best games ever made.

If he has an iOS device and happened to be a young boy who played the silver ball, Pinball Arcade is really the only game he'll ever need. Their mission is to provide perfect recreations of classic tables, and they're succeeding so far.
