This album is quite good, it's not better that PBP, but it's far from being worse, the production hasn't been improved either, but it's fairly good and should sound better on a 320kbps rip. I'm feeling this album will grow a lot on me, the only drawbacks so far are the mediocre bass lines, and the first half of the album being a little boring compared to the awesomeness of the second half.

This might figure among my top 10, but more likely it will be a top 15.

SPeaking of "how it sounds" - I don't understand calling the production on this muddy.

That's what bugs me the most about this album_ No brutality whatsoever. Except for the tuitle track, yeah.

There's a bit here and there. I find it's more spread out than it was on the past 2 albums. I think that's the only thing I don't care for on this release.

So am I still the only one on Earth who likes Symmetric In Design better than Pitch Black Progress?

Anyway one listen was mixed, I'll have to pay more attention next time around.

The title track is easily the most epic thing they've ever done.

I'll reserve final judgment until a good copy leaks so I can burn it and properly crank it up in my car. But so far, it seems like a watered down version of PBP, with lots of filler. The heavier stuff was more brutal, the vocal lines were more gripping.

But I don't get the hate for Timewave Zero. Sounds decent to me. Certainly not worse than any other middle of the road track on the album. If I had to pick the worst song, it would probably be The Three Dimensional Shadow.

I can see how you wouldn't like the chorus if you hate glam metal, but come on, the verse and solo are awesome.

Ugh, I'm kicking myself for not checking out SiD earlier. Absolutely awesome, probably better than PBP.

Oh yeah and the new album is okay but needs time to grow.

While I need a few more listens to accurately judge the album as a whole, the title track is the best song I've heard from them

The title track in the leaked album is missing 25 seconds. That's a lot. Probably cut off at the beginning.

I don't think I'd have any trouble telling them apart even if I'd never heard them before. The only thing they have in common is the general SS style, a similar tempo, and the fact that they're guitar melodies. That's a big "so what?" The keys are different, and the melodies don't really share much in common, as they target different chords over the root, and one is based on quarter notes while the other is based on 16ths.

It's a really well done prog death song with an epic feel. That's what the fuss is about.

I added the parentheses because one person thought they were the same song.

I'm not talking about the melody line on top. The rhythms underneath are 100% identical except for the placement of one note in the first cluster of 16th notes. And what is that about the other being based on quarter notes? The rhythm guitar in both is quite clearly based on 16th notes. The main difference is that the octave changes in Deviate From the Form while the pitch stays the same in the new song.

So is their a full version out of this? I definitely hear some serious missing transitions.

I doubt there are any missing transitions. There are probably parts cut off from intros and outros of songs.

This album seems a little more hit and miss than the other albums to me. Quantum Leaper is a perfect example, great chorus but a pretty bad verse riff that spoils the song.
Having said that its still a great album, favourite songs so far are Artificial Sun Projection, Ghost Prototype I and Prism and Gate.
Not sure whether i prefer the more techy solo style, its not necessarily better or worse than PBP or SiD just different.

I'm not really getting the love for the title track, its a great song but not as good as a couple of others on this album.

It has to be song transitions that are cut out as a couple of them seem very badly done and rushed, im guessing thats where some of the time discrepancies have gone.

    5/10, might listen again.

I really wish they would cut the fuck out with their lame choruses. And don't facepalm this, elfagio.

Timewave Zero to Quantum Leaper is the main one, just seems rushed although that maybe itunes screwing up on the transition speed.

I'm genuinely surprised people are praising it as excellent. The songwriting really is rather sub-par and I don't know how people can get past that or even if they can, I don't understand what it is they are appreciating.

How the FUCK is the songwriting subpar? How are the choruses cheesy? Someone please explain this to me. Even in the albums unfinished form it still kicks serious ass

3.5 after a few listens, same as PBP and one notch below SIM.

I'll keep giving this a chance, though.

This is a surefire top 10 album of the year, I've been listening to it once or twice a day every day since it leaked.

Oh, I kind of see what you mean, I wasn't even focusing on the rhythm guitar. Listening to that, yes, it's a similar sort of bouncy syncopated rhythm, but it's not any more similar than say, any two Meshuggah riffs.
