This website lost my order when I ordered BC&SL. Instead of getting the album on release day, I got it 3 weeks late at Best Buy. Pissed me off.
Just listened to the album for the first time. It's very good, and I'm digging the overall darker tone of it compared to CDC. So far my favorites are Colossal, Whales, The Levitated, and Black Hills. There's definitely a huge Cynic and Gordian Knot influence on Whales, which is awesome. Looking forward to seeing them again next month and getting the tab book. Edit: One thing that bothered me though is that tracks 5, 6, and 7 all fade out.
Yeah, one of those fade outs is so forced and way too soon, bugs me. Recent (good quality) live clip of them playing The Levitated. I swear they played the CD in the background and dry-played to it...it's that good. Starts at 2:04:
Nice! They are always pretty tight live. And I have really been enjoying the album! I don't think my neighbor likes it, though...
Listened again fully at work this morning. Really, really good. The Levitated / Secret Earth are my two favorites.
This is not directed toward Scale the Summit but bands in general: when did 75 minutes become the standard "headlining set"? Seems like bands have gotten so lazy lately.
I think for bands at their level of popularity, there are usually at least three or four bands on a tour, so the headliner realistically can't play much longer than that. Plus StS only have three fairly short albums anyway, so they'll be able to play a large chunk of their songs.
Yeah when you consider that it's instrumental music that's not improvisation based I think that is definitely an acceptable headlining set.
There is a new song on it called "Redwoods" that they will play at all the gigs. The song will be available on iTunes at some point. They tell me it is a great tune!
Kay See and I made it to the opening gig of the headline tour. It was incredible! The new song is great too. I have seen StS play many times and even though they always play the music with perfection, last night took it to a new level. 80 minutes with very few breaks and a lot of demanding songs... pretty intense. They were really feeling it and it translated into the music. They also have an excellent sound guy on this tour... everything shined through clearly... it made me realize how great the songs on The Collective really are.
I'd love to see them headlining. They're usually like the first of four opening bands and have shit sound, which sucks because their music definitely deserves better.
Egh. Want to go to the KC date (especially because the Riot Room has incredibly good sound every time) but I have to move the next day. Blah. Might go anyway.
Dooooo ittttt! It's worth it. I'll help you move (gotta buy pizza for me... and a plane ticket). Also, I'm really scrawny and am not much help lifting a couch.
OK but I will have to fly you from Houston to North Korea, where you'll have to get on a propeller plane. You can land at Lawrence Municipal though and skip the drive from KCI.
Seeing them tonight, will report. I haven't listened to them in years but they're playing in a tiny bar for ten bucks.
That sucks! I think this is the second time the van screws them up on THIS tour and i remember them being stuck in Arizona over the weekend one or two tours ago. They must be so pissed off by now.
Saw them in Philly tonight, they played a great set. I'd swap out a song from Monument for Age of the Tide, but I'm nitpicking. Also picked up Chris' technique book.
I'm so jealous of where you live. It's like every time there is a thread about a touring band, your post in the thread starts with "Saw them in Philly tonight." Haha. I wish I could see so many good shows. Have to drive like 3 hours minimum for those kinds of bills.
Yeah, it's pretty much assumed that there will be a Philly date on most tours, so when there isn't, it's like WTF. It was at a tiny venue (probably 60-70 people there), and Elitist played to a drum machine. Apparently their drummer left the day before they went on tour. Sucks that the Louisiana date was cancelled. Setlist: Colossal Bloom Dunes Gallows Redwoods Rode in on Horseback Black Hills Crossing The Ocean The Levitated Sargasso Sea Penguins In Flight Whales The Great Plains Secret Earth Origin of Species Giants So, when is Tetrafusion gonna be up here?
Damn, Bloom? How was that? My favorite song by them. As soon as possible man. We're working with management and booking stuff right now. It'll be this summer most likely. Brooks just got an Axe-FX II, we just bought a full lighting rig, we have an awesome production with the backing track and stuff and play the new album start to finish, so we're really ready to go out and play it. It's coming together awesomely. And your physical copy will be there soon! We should get them this week.
Bloom was great, I was really glad they played it. Looking forward to hearing the album and seeing you guys!
