It's actually very interesting texturally, but the abuse of microtones is tedious and serves no purpose other than for "experimentation"
I see no reason to see any use of microtones as "abuse", as they are very much usable notes in the same right as "non-microtones" are.
The same people who "enjoy" that sound are the same people who "enjoy" this performance "art": So like I said, no one in their right mind
So you enjoy notes that sound completely out of tune to the 99% of humanity that does not know anything about microtones?
Sounds like a drunk person playing the piano with their elbows But it's strangely cool at the same time
itt elmo thinks the entire world of music operates within 12TET. Yet probably listens to plenty of microtonal nuance in a variety of music he already pretends/claims to enjoy.
I implore you to explore some of the shitty metal you like and observe the format of the guitar solo and then trace the history of the guitar solo back until you start to see the commonalities between every modern piece of rock music and the microtonal influences incorporated from American blues and how they permeate everything in modern rock music. Or the simple fact that you, as a fretless string player, use microtones all the time. Though you're probably not academic enough to peel back the layers and analyze what you're doing - though I'm sure you're playing septimal 7ths all the time, and I doubt you ever play a ET tone when you're playing the third of a chord.
Ya, you can think it sounds like shit, but that doesn't have anything to do with or without music theory. Just wanted to make that clear.
I don't have that much of a problem with it. I'm not sitting here like, "Yeah man. This music is so deep." I just haven't heard a piano tuned this way so the sound intrigues me. I guess it comes down to the texture, like Uncle Damfee said.
