Hey, I love Star Wars, but people who jizz in their pants over Luke turning on his lightsaber in a NEVER BEFORE SEEN way are just weird.

even though i told myself 10,000 times i'd never buy a star wars blu-ray set unless it's the original cuts, i'm now reverting to nerd consumer slut with a boner mode because the release is confirmed and actually on the horizon and i can't stop thinking about it. even though there may be shit in the new cuts i don't like, the prospect of seeing the awesome shit in 1080p makes me salivate.

i bet heroin addiction is similar.

Luke was actually putting the finishing touches on his NEW lightsaber, post amputation/father-revelation/badassery ESB finale.

I watched the whole trilogy on VHS this winter (because it's the only way we could find the original cuts) and I have to say the grainy VHS look perfectly complements the aesthetic style of the movies, especially A New Hope. Higher resolution is not always better. The movies were simply not made with HD and Blu-Rays in mind and watching them in that format would ring false in the same way that old colorized films did.

Except it was originally released in theaters, and was higher quality than VHS

Not a fan of Lucas' incessant fucking with the originals, but that deleted scene was pretty cool. If the blu-ray version still features fucking Hayden Christensen at the end of ROTJ standing next to Yoda and Obi-wan, I'll probably not buy it though.

I just recently bought the original trilogy, actually today. I still have never seen the gayass Hayden Christensen ending yet. I hope it's not as terrible as I think it will be. Do they still even sell the original cuts on DVD anymore? And beyond that ending, what else did they fuck up on the remasters? And why didn't they put Ewan MacGregor in the ending of ROTJ?

If you remember, the original cuts showed an Anakin Skywalker who looked much younger than he did when Luke removed Vader's mask. The idea was that Anakin had died when he became Vader (as Obi-wan said), so his ghost would look like he looked before he became Vader. Problem is, the Anakin Skywalker in the prequels didn't look like that, so Lucas had to change it.

It makes sense, but it's still fucking awful.

Yes but DVD/Blu-Ray don't look like movie theaters either. There's a particular glossiness or slickness to modern high definition that suits modern CG-based effects but clashes with the bucket-of-bolts aesthetic that defines A New Hope and contributes to its feeling like a throwback to old 1940s radio serials and such, which to me is an essential part of its charm.

EDIT: Also, forget "Han Shot First" or Hayden Christensen. By far the biggest travesty in the Special Editions was completely replacing the songs in Jabba's palace and during the final Ewok celebration.

5 actors have played that character in some capacity

David Prowse - Inside the suit
    James Earl Jones - Voice
    Whoever the fuck - unmasked/ghost
    Jake Lloyd - Child Anakin
    Hayden Christensen - Adult Anakin

Agreed. I actually think in some regards the special effects in the originals are better than in the new trilogy. Because they were forced to use models and actual props in the original, the effects retained a tangible and realistic feel that is completely lost in the glossy, flashy CGI.

Having said that, I didn't really mind some of the subtle CGI additions to the 1997 edition of the movies, but shit like that dinosaur thing on Tattoine completely obscuring one of the shots is atrocious and Lucas should be. Oh, and don't forget that the post-prequels version of ROTJ also features those really gay shots of Naboo and other places celebrating (complete with gungan shouts of 'WESA FREEEE') :sick

This. So hard. Greedo shooting first is idiotic. The appearance of Christensen at the end of Jedi is silly but makes sense, but is still sort of a facepalm moment, as Ogre pointed out. But the replacement those musical scenes in Jedi is unfuckingforgivable. Especially the Jabba's Palace bullshit. Goddammit.

I can't believe I'm on an internet forum complaining publically about George Lucas. Ten years ago I swore it would never come to this. Goodbye World.

I really would like to see more Star Wars films, but I would like to see them done with little involvement from George Lucas which, as long as he's alive, probably won't happen.

He'll be 72 in 2016 and he's already a tubby fellow. Hopefully he wont have the energy to direct this supposed sequel trilogy.

So someone else will do it.

I don't know why people are so surprised that they would make more movies when people keep buying into the releases

If they got someone good to handle them, I'd gladly watch. I still love the Star Wars universe, even if half of the movies based on it are pretty bad.

I would love to see a Star Wars sequel trilogy, done right, Lucas not all too much involved besides signing checks, and being based off of some of the fantastic expanded universe content that has been written in the past twenty years.

Yes, I'm a massive geek, fuck you.

I will watch it anyway...so bring on the bullshit!

I like starwars. I would like to see more starwars. Why would I think this was bad?

I think people grossly exaggerate how bad the prequels are. They are not that bad, they are good movies. You just look back on the first 3 with nostalgic and sentimental value, so no new movie could ever live up to them. Even if they were absolutely horrible, why not? It is not like making another 3 movies is going to make the original 3 bad.

This has the potential to be good.

I didn't know about the TV series they are making, what is that about?

They're not the worst movies I've ever seen. They're not horrible in the strictest sense of the word... But they are movies that seem to degrade in quality every time I watch them.
