I have and love that album, but thanks for the rec. Which reminds me, I need to listen to H&LA again.
Rumpelstiltskin Grinder - Living for Death, Destroying the Rest 5.5/10 I don't know. There are many great moments on this cd. There aren't many other bands that can play the kind of thrash these guys play. But they went overboard on the crossover to hardcore-thrash imo.
mewithoutYou - Catch for Us the Foxes 8/10 Needs more tender loving, but has risen steadily from a 5 since I got it in August last year.
Soundgarden - Superunknown 2.5/5 Would be considerably higher (maybe as high as 4, but probably 3.5) if they trimmed out some of the bloat. The record could stand to lose probably four tracks. Most of them are good, so it would inevitably lose some good songs, but it would be a generally better listening experience had they not crammed so much onto the record just because they could. Such was the dawn of CDs, though-- suddenly bands could fit so much more onto a record and all the labels wanted them to do just that.
Sonic Youth - Sister 5/5 Sonic Youth - Bad Moon Rising 4/5 A Silver Mt. Zion - 13 Blues for 13 Moons 4/5
Justin Timberlake - FutureSex / LoveSounds This was a pretty good and fun album until the last two songs.
OSI - Blood 3/5 When the album is good, it's great. When they start adding 90 second intros that have nothing to do with the song, let Mikael Akerfeldt sing, or write completely incoherent boring instrumentals, it's pretty bad.
Today: Metallica - St. Anger 1/10 I couldn't even get past the second song. Good god. Live - Throwing Copper 9/10 Radiohead - OK Computer 8.5/10 Behemoth - Evangelion 9/10 Cadaveryne - Fathering the Apocalypse 7.5/10 The Beatles - Revolver 8.5/10 Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize 8.5/10 Pink Floyd - Division Bell - 8/10
I liked that album but didn't think the transitions between ambient and black metal parts were subtle enough.
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom - 3.5/5 I can see why some would hate it, but I like it. It has a unique emotional shape and has a fully-formed idiom all to itself, somewhere between prog, jazz, Terry Riley-esque modern classical, and maybe folk (but almost no rock). Flawed but worth returning to.
Porcupine Tree - The Incident - 3.5/5 So much better than Deadwing and FoaBP. Give me more The Yellow Windows of the Evening Train and Time Flies. MORE.
Massive Attack - Splitting the Atom: *** TV on the Radio - Live at Amoeba Music: **** The Beatles - Please Please Me: **** The Beatles - With the Beatles: ***1/2
Sweet Trip - Velocity : Design : Comfort ? ? ? ? ½ Lenny Valentino - Uwaga! Jedzie tramwaj ? ? ? ? Cocteau Twins - Love's Easy Tears ? ? ? ½ Cocteau Twins - Heaven Or Las Vegas ? ? ? ?
mewithoutYou - It's all crazy! It's all false! It's all a dream! It's alright first time i've heard it, it's pretty bitchin', not sure if i prefer it to their other stuff though. 3.5/5
Soulsavers - Broken 4 of 5 Might rate it even higher. Some extremely weird shit has to happen for it to miss out on a spot in my top 10 for this year.
Rainbow - Rainbow Rising 10/10 The Beatles - Please Please Me 8.5/10 Fleshgod Apocalypse - Oracles 8/10 Radiohead - In Rainbows 9/10
