http://legacy.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=175707 Pretty sure it's not going to matter much, this band is past its use by date, but I am still a little surprised. in b4 Geoff Taint
so ... did a new lotr meme get inadvertantly created just now in this thread? did that actually just happen? is it gonna fly?
Can't believe it took this long, to be honest. You know, we may talk a lot of shit about Portnoy, but he's certainly not as bad as Geoff Tate.
Tater is not a founding member of the band despite his claims to the contrary - the band was formed without him, he did vocals on their EP essentially as a guest, and then joined them and quit Myth when QR got a record deal. For comparison, it's the same with Kevin Moore who was not a founding member of Dream Theater/Majesty. Tater is/was the original vocalist in the band, just as KM was the original keyboardist in DT, but neither is truly a founding member of those respective bands. <message edited by Setlist Scotty on 4 mins. ago>
bosk1 asked me to repost my review (which is on Amazon.com as the lead review, if any of you would be kind enough again to vote for it as helpful!). Here it is:
They're not going to be good anyway. Even with the original line-up, they'd probably still be pretty lackluster. It takes the most hardcore Queensryche fan to get through Promised Land, let alone Hear in the New Frontier. But I won't expect the next album to be as bad as the last, though even with Tate that would have been hard to do anyway. I probably won't listen to it anyway, if there ever is one.
Operation: Mindcrime and Empire are both great albums. But Tate does indeed suck miserably now... Has for a while. The quality of the music hasn't gone down significantly, but the vox were piss poor. However, I have not heard the new vocalist yet.
Ok, don't take that statement too seriously, I haven't listened to like the last like 5 albums. I've only heard recent live clips of the songs I know and love.
Promised Land is their best album, the only one other than Mindcrime that I still listen to (although I'll put on a few tracks from Empire).
Eh, I don't like Tates voice, and he loses everything he has going for him when he gets away from metal, which is all he even has any business trying to sing. His voice ruins PL for me. Just thinking about him singing "I AM I" makes me lol.
Promised Land was definitely their best album. Hear in the Now Frontier had a few good songs and wasn't completely awful, but that was where the decline began.
DeGarmo was the one that made the band great. When he lost his passion / burned out, the band started to lose its soul.
Kinda unreal seeing other places on the web where people are actually sad about this. I figured anyone who follows QR at all would be thrilled with this news, but I guess not. When MP left DT the online fan community collectively orgasmed, and it would have been much worse if the admin and the mods of the DT fansite hadn't turned into MP-coddling Nazi's. And MP was nowhere near as bad for DT as Tate was for QR.
I'm not familiar with the history of Tate being bad in Queensryche... But if it's worse than MP in DT, then I want to hear about it.
Well, the last decade or so of QR music has been referred to as "Tatesryche" for a reason. I don't think you can make the argument that any Tatesryche album is better than any Mike Portnoy presents.... Dream Theater album OR even the Adrenaline Mob album.
DTF orgasmed too, and MP.com to a much lesser extent. DTF ran a poll about how people felt, and the results were overwhelmingly skewed to the "fucking thrilled" side. The mods came down hard, though, and started handing out bans left and right for people not being "respectful". Lots of us left or got permabanned as a result of getting fed up with that stuff. Quad here got temp-banned for calling Mike Portnoy "arrogant" and the same happened to me for a comment along those lines. Other times, posts that weren't against the rules per-se would just disappear. So yes, DTF was thrilled as could be but the moderating staff kinda put a damper on it by stepping up the rules.
DT did some embarrassing shit with Portnoy, but it never got this bad: The woman stripping on stage is Tate's stepdaughter. Yeah.
