2 great moments: The "pissing against the tree while being sung to". As the heavy part hits at the end, "everyone get out of the van".
I also love when they just stand there awkwardly during the actually very emotionally-sung lyrics around 3:50 And the playing guitar while in a go cart, oh lawl I could keep going
That video is fucking great. Metal isn't dead, but I would say that Protest the Hero is the only band I give a fuck about that's keeping the "fun"/lighter spirit of 80's heavy metal alive. I fucking love that. Every other good metal band nowadays is preoccupied with making the darkest most brutalestest shit ever, which is cool but makes PTH all the more unique. On second thought, I'd also put Slough Feg in that category, but that's it.
That guy is a fucking douchebag anyway. I share a couple mutual friends with him and have met him in person, and he is extremely self-absorbed and really conceited. Fuck Matte Babel. Can't even spell MATT properly.
been listening to this a lot lately, finally started to click with me. probably better than fortress but nothing touches kezia. hair trigger is just... fuck
I think the songwriting on Scurrilous is pretty amazing and much better than the other two, but the only thing it's missing is that every single song on Kezia and Fortress has one section where I go "HOLY FUCKING SHIT". Scurrilous doesn't, but I think the songs are better crafted.
It's a fucking great album, but yeah it's missing that SUPAH EPIC THING! thing. Like the breakdown in Bloodmeat, raise your glass etc. Scurrilous is not as catchy either.
Yeah man. There's more balance but there isn't one moment which is like the end of "Turn Soonest The Sea" or DAT breakdown in Bloodmeat. Scurrilous is catchy though, it's just not as bombastic! C'est La Vie sticks in your head, so does the end of Hair Trigger.
oh yeah, definitely has it's catchy moments. But I feel they are sparse compared to their other albums
come on dudes the end of Dunsel, and C'est La Vie, and Tongue-Splitter, and Tandem. Hell, the start of Dunsel, too.
Not feeling it man. Could be more epic on all counts. Even the Jadea Kelly bits on Kezia are > the ones on Scurrilous.
No one was saying that Scurrilous doesn't have "epic shit" but the point was that they weren't AS "epic" as some stuff from Kezia and Fortress. Hair-Trigger has my favorite epic shit so far
Protest have one of the highest quotas of epic shit out of any band and the best thing is they simply couldn't give a fuck about it. EDIT: Jamming Fortress right now and I'm up to Palms Read and that song on its own has more outrageously epic shit than all of the second half of Scurrilous.
I don't see why the album not having "epic shit" makes it less interesting, or makes you like it less. No one can deny that the album has amazingly solid musicianship and songwriting. The lyrics, well... whatever.
There are a couple of "meh" lyrical moments but for the most part they're awesome per usual. Dunsel and Tongue-Splitter especially.
lyrics are not so bad, as soon as i started understanding the metaphors, it got a bit better. I mean, hair-trigger being about cigarettes is still kinda gay, but it makes them better at least.
C'est La Vie's lyrics are amazing. So many really sharp lyrical turns. but the rest are ordinary. Especially Tandem.
Hot damn, I hadn't even checked this out since Fortress was so lame but I'm actually really liking what I hear.
Completely agree although I've been on a huge Kezia kick recently. I've always thought the overall sound of the album was weird in terms of production and the drums are super same-y.
