Yeah, I'm a total newb with computers, and I actually don't know how to make the Advisor not start when I turn on my computer...

I always close it, and a bunch of other programs... It's annoying.

Yep... I've been meaning to attempt to fix it...

If I may ask, how can you turn off certain programs from running as soon as your computer turns on? EX: HP Advisor

If you just handed me your computer I could have it fixed within 10 minutes. Let me go hop on my PC to see exactly how to do that in Vista.

    Haha, nice.

I figured out how to close the Advisor, I think. But, whenever I turn on the computer, a TON of programs run on their own...like in the Task Manager. I have no idea where/what some of them are. They're all mainly HP programs. I've always just closed them whenever I turn on my laptop, but it's just :x.

Yeah, all these fucking companies now preload Vista with so much bullshit these days. It's so ridiculous. That's why I would recommend to anyone getting a new Vista laptop to just straight away reformat.

Or build your own machine and install the OS yourself :P

You can view and edit what programs run on start up by hitting windows key + R, type msconfig and hit enter, go to the startup tab. Don't disable anything that says microsoft windows.

@ Lashie & Bacon, what is that coffee cup up in the right corner? Also how do you get Adium Bird to be reading a computer?

the coffee cup is caffeine, it prevents your mac from going into sleep mode when you activate it.

You can change your adium icons to anything, http://www.adiumxtras.com

    :lol

I like desktop icons and I use the different media players for different purposes. And the only reason I use IE is because Youtube videos and others of the sort don't play in Firefox. I think it has something to do with being a 64 bit browser vs a 32 bit. But yeah, I use all those desktop icons, otherwise I wouldn't have them there.

"Different media players for different purposes"

What can Quicktime player do that iTunes can't, or vice-versa?

What can Windows Media Player do that Winamp can't, or vice-versa?

    C'mon, I smell serious bullshit.

Also, for movies, use VLC Media Player. Anything else is way too convoluted and sucks balls.

I'll admit I'm nowhere near as computer savvy as I'd like to be. All I know is I like using iTunes to play my music, Windows Media Player for viewing internet video links, and Quicktime... well I'll give you Quicktime, I just keep that because of iTunes. And I know I'll get shit for this but all I use Winamp for is converting FLAC files; aside from that I've never really bothered to figure out how to use it, nor do I have any interest to at this point.
