Here we go... a pic that does it justice! Check out this detail of the panel, logo, pleather, piping, and the speaker grille... so damn sexy.
A little under $2k, brand new. I think that's pretty decent value... it does what it's supposed to really well (think of the Cornford kinda deal... old school Marshall made a little more boutique), it's built great, has the full Mesa warranty. To me it helps that it's made in USA because if I end up needing any kind of repairs, etc. then I can count on great service. Anything built in Europe can be a real bitch to deal with if you have problems with it. I'd say the cons are that it's heavy, and it doesn't get the kind of high gain sounds most metal players want... but I feel like the latter one is just a matter of figuring out how to dial it in and maybe getting the right pedal. The Mark V 1x12 is around the same price but does the higher gain stuff better, plus they have the Roadster and Rect-o-verb around that price and the Express for far less. The Lone Star is another sweet one, but a little too much of a blues amp for me. All in all Mesa has a great selection of combos out there and this was the one for me.
Not since mid December. Based on that update the painting should be done by now, and if he managed to get to it I'd imagine he would be finishing the installation of the electronics any day. He had to go through a lot of crap and he also took on a LOT of orders last year, so it's hard to get updates and I haven't had a single pic of the build, but the way I see it is that as long as he builds it right, that's all that matters... I chose his shop because of how he builds, not how well he keeps in touch with customers, naturally, and he keeps the prices of the guitars reasonable (for what they are) by running a simple operation where he is doing literally EVERYTHING. If I need any inspiration to practice it's probably to be more worthy of that guitar when it gets here!
every day i'm hustlin... I'm 26 so that might explain. Plus it helps to know your priorities, music being one of them. When you think about how long you'll be playing your gear then it's easy to see that it's worth every penny!
Sherman. And is it going to be anything like Chris' new 7-string? I saw that guitar in person last week and DAMN, was it good looking. When I talked to him after the show, he said something about not playing 8-string anymore. I'm not entirely sure it's permanent, but he's been using his a 7-string on the BTBAM tour so far.
God damn I hate you. The Marshall is too big to transport, and I use the POD too much for recording so i'll need it. Monitors are up in the air-only gonna take them if I have room in the truck.
I understand. Good luck w/ the move, I hope you don't have to put too much gear in storage! That's right, a Sherman, same shape as Chris' natural 7 with the same bridge and a flame maple and mahogany droptop like his, w/ ebony fretboard. The natural 7 is fantastic... I played it with some Nailbomb pickups in there before Chris replaced them and it got such a nice clear tone, with the perfect amount of grunt on the lower notes, no mud anywhere. Unlike his, mine has/will have a maple set neck (I just like the brightness and the sustain you get w/ maple), Bare Knuckle pickups, graphtech piezo system, and a very neat control setup w/ 3 vol, 1 master tone, and switches to go between parallel, series, and coil tapped wiring for each pickup, plus a 3 way selector for the pickups and a 3 way to choose pickups/piezo/both. That's almost the same as JP's setup but with the independent volume controls for each pickup and the wiring mode switches, and most importantly a fixed bridge. Deep purple finish with blackburst edges. I'm really excited about it... it's everything I want from a guitar. I'm really spoiled by my Jackson, which I never could have had if I wasn't lucky, so I expect that kind of a feel. For a long time now I've wanted a piezo system and the ability to blend pickups as I wish, as well as a proper fixed bridge. Mike is a fantastic builder... everything from his wood choices, to the feel and sound of the guitar, to his implementation of custom features like the piezo saddles for the bridge, to his finishes is A+, and his prices make the guitars within reach of many players. I'm willing to bet that he builds better, for less, and more quickly than any of the big custom shops like Jackson, ESP, etc. Now that the cat's out of the bag I'll be sure to post pictures when the day comes! Try not to hate me too much... my hope is that within a couple of years I'll actually be worthy of that axe, and I guess by loving guitar for 14 years I already am!
Here's Chris' blog about the 7 JC was talking about. http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=93478960&blogId=517080368 Busy day, I'll catch you guys tonight hopefully!
I can't wait to see (and hear) this guitar. I expect some hella tight youtube videos of you showing that baby off.
It does indeed. Next on the list is replacing my 4x10 Warwick cab with a couple of 2x10 Bergantino's (Neo magnets of course, continuing the spirit of portability). Just need to wait a while for my bank balance to recover.
Dan, have you ever played through Eminence cabs? I've been recommended them quite a bit. Don't know jack about them though.
Since when do they make cabinets? I know they make raw speakers, but I don't think they build cabinets anymore. More important, I think, than having a certain brand of speaker or a certain configuration is making sure that the box matches the speaker. Shoving as many 12 inch speakers into a 30" square box might work for guitar, but not for bass.
I played thru the Tite Gain channel at just 9:00 last night and holy fuck! Just with all the other knobs at 12:00 it was by far the best clean lead sound I've ever gotten. I am thinking about trading in my Godin Freeway this week and picking up a good SC strat instead. The only thing is that I've got a guitar on the way (the Sherman... it's a month out at least) that will have coil splitters on the humbucker. How close do you think that gets to a "real" single coil sound? Because it's a set neck mahogany body w/ flame maple top and a maple neck, it'll probably sound different from a strat regardless of pickup choice, but still probably closer than a Gibson due to the maple neck and 25.5'' scale length. Tough to say until I play the Sherman, but I'm willing to have a strat for its own sake so long as I can make room by ditching the Godin. On that note, how do you guys like the noiseless single coils Fender is putting in some of their strats these days, and which models do/don't come with good stock single coil pickups?
Parker Fly Deluxe And my POD X3 live Out of all the gear that I have, that's all that really matters.
Plays as terrible as it looks. I replaced the snare with a mesh Roland pad and have bought and broken 6 extra cymbals. I NEED an acoustic set again. Love this guitar.
Main guitar: Fender Thurston Moore Jazzmaster (American) Also have a red Mexican Fender Telecaster Amp: Vox VT50 Effects: Z Vex Fuzz Factory Boss TR-2 Tremolo Boss OC-2 Octave Dunlop Cry Baby Korg Mini-KP Computer: Apple MacBook
Yeah dude, the amount of stuff I can do with that POD is just freakin' unreal. Such as having two simultaneous banks of effects for both my Peizo and Electric outputs from the Parker. So beautiful. I'm still getting my head around it ofcourse but I can tell it's going to be a staple part of my playing from here on in. The Parker is absolutely delicious. I've had a P-Series for quite a while leading up to getting it but this one just blew me away. Especially with its weight.
Mods: Cruiser Bridge Model in neck, Fender Schaller locking tuners, graphtech string saver saddles (import style), pearloid pickguard, plus the Duncan JB that was in there before. I've also made the tone knobs control middle and bridge instead of neck and middle. There is a second Cruiser on the way, it's backordered. The point of using the bridge model is that it's higher output, therefore better matches my full sized HB.
My Gear: Ibanez S7320 Ibanez S470 (couldn't find a pic of one in my colour) Babicz Spider PodXT Mesa Boogie TriAxis Mesa Boogie 50/50 Rocktron Xpression + a Power conditioner and a custom 2x12 cab.
Custom telestratster B Hefner Alder Hard tail Body warmoth neck ampeg r50-h (got this amp + cab for $250 because it was "broken" I ended up just needing to resolder 2 wires in the cabinet to get it to work)
Is that Vox any good? I sold my Vox AC30 cause it was too big and I don't gig. Now I'm without an amp and need something decent for practicing on at home.
I dunno I don't really like the VTs... They are pretty fun to screw around with but i'm not really a big fan of modeling..
yo wilface, how do you like that chaos pad? it looks fun as shit to mess around with. do you just plug it into the fx loop or something?
Uh you need to get something that converts AC to regular 1/4 chord. It's kind of screwy in the fx loop.
Bring on the hate! All it needs at this point is the burst around the edge (very subtle one, just a thin border of darker, deeper purple fading in), clear coat, sanding or whatever it is you do to the finish once it's on to make it smooth, hardware, and to be shipped my way! I love the grain and how it came out, can't wait to see what the body looks like with the finish on.
