So, with some things changing around here lately and the complaints about moderation/etc, we're going to try a new approach that I really feel would work best. Many complaints stem from moderators that are out of touch with a specific subculture of 5/8 moderating that section of 5/8 - for example, someone who spends almost all of their time in GD coming over to MD to moderate and not understanding what's going on. In that light, I'd like to open up nominations for moderators for the P/R discussion board. This will be done in other sections of the forum as well, not just here. The goal is to bring on two mods for each section who are well liked and understand the section(s) of the forum that they will be modding. If you'd like to nominate someone for a moderator in the P/R discussion board, just reply here with who, and if you don't mind, a brief explanation as for your reasoning for the nomination. Cookie cutter post FTW!
This. If we had Whitefish as a mod we'd also need Nolan to address the obvious liberal bias that's plaguing every pocket of society and the internet.
Yeah, one of the reasons I stopped teaching is because I not suited for an authority/discipline role. If kids were swearing or running in the halls, I really didn't care at all. Good for them. I pretty much genuinely despise authority. I'm not one of those people who pretends to despise it, but then once they get power they turn into Satan. Plus, regardless of all that, I'm not really active enough to be a mod.
Have you ever made a proper post that didn't involve mocking the poster above you? I just ask because I haven't and I don't want you cramping my style.
Agreed. Anyway the last thing P/R needs is active moderation; we do a fine job of policing ourselves as it is.
I'd be down to mod, since I think we need to represent both sides of the political/religious spectrum in our moderation.
you'd be a fucking horrible mod, probaly the worst in the histroy of mdoersation that has ever existed
I think it would be interesting to give everyone moderation powers in this sub-forum. It would be kind of a political/social experiment.
We should give half of the forum mod powers in this forum and half not, like the internet version of the Stanford Prison Experiment.
Giving everyone mod powers on this subforum would basically be an experiment in self-government and the free market. It would be like the state of nature and we'd have to create some sort of order out of the chaos.
Free market would be no moderation other than enforcing basic rights (I'm twelve and what are these on the internet?). Everyone being a mod would be like everyone having government powers and trampling on the basic human e-rights of their fellows.
Yeah, it wouldn't be the free market (but neither would no moderation). I guess I just think it would lead to a sort of "free market solution". Everyone with mod powers reflects the state of nature, and it would basically mean that we would have to come to some sort of mutual agreement on a system of government without any supreme overlord decision maker. I think it would be interesting.
