Which it isn't. At least the Sisters/Nocturne comparison was valid, TtS-Ecstasy of Gold is vague at best.
Not vague at all. The first time I heard it all I thought was this rips off Morricone hard. Also, from their facebook: Johan Hallgren leaves the band After 13 years in the band, Johan Hallgren has decided to leave Pain of Salvation to focus on his daughter and wife. He will not leave music altogether, but plans to work with music in a way that allows him to stay at home with his family in Sweden. That means that the band's upcoming Nov/Dec tour together with Opeth will be his last. He will of course be sadly missed, both musically and personally, and very difficult to replace. So, if you know someone who sings and plays the crap out of basically anyone, send him or her our way - we might just have a thing or two to discuss. Johan: "I'm leaving the band with both joy and sadness. I need to stay close to my daughter and my child-to-come, they will be my greatest concern along with my wife. I will miss everyone I've met during the years, and the band will continue to have a warm place in my heart. So finally, treat yourself and all that surrounds you with respect, and stay with POS - the greatest band on the planet! Sorry if I disappoint you, I miss you already!"
It sounds like Morricone, but I don't get the Ecstasy of Gold comparison specifically. The only part sounding anything like EoG is the "Ah-aaaaaaaaah" part that starts around 1:25, so people saying it ripped it off either vaguely remember how Ecstasy sounds or have only heard that preview of TtS on Amazon. EDIT: Also, "fuck" for Johan leaving.
PoS just needs to call it quits. Theres no way he can replace Johan. This is what happens when you completely change your sound and approach to songwriting and polarize your fanbase. I've had a feeling since Scarsick that the band was losing steam... It started when Kristoffer left the band.
Ok I will agree that it is not a straight rip off, but the feel and tempo are very close between the 2 songs. I was bored so I slapped them together. The result is pretty interesting. I actually like To The Shoreline, so don't take this as I am trying to knock it. I am just trying to prove that the influence is very strong on this song, close to the point of ripping the original off. http://youtubedoubler.com/244D
Right, the bald dude. I'm just happy I saw them with the original line-up when they were my favorite band and had just released 12:5. Now I'm fairly certain we will never get a new RL, TPE or Be from them so they can just continue release shit or aim to be the Eurovision winner, they're just a shadow of a once good band anyway.
There's no way that you can fuuuuuuck her like I can. Anyway, I disagree. And since my subjective opinion is the absolute truth, RS1 and RS2 are brilliant albums and you are all whiny fags. Yeah, there are certain parts that are really similar, I admit I'm in denial to an extent, but as you can see, for the most part it just sounds like two different songs playing. It was probably inspired by Morricone, but for me it's definitely not a rip-off.
This is in fact true, I just don't really get why. Ι'm with the majority on the holy trinity of TPE-RL-BE being untouchable, but that doesn't mean the last two are bad albums. I also don't get why some people like RS2 but hate RS1 or vice versa. It's pretty much the same sound.
It will be interesting to see how Johan leaving the band will affect the music. Daniel writes and composes nearly all of the music/lyrics, but it's tough to change guitarists without changing the band at least a little. To be fair though, the band hasn't been the same since Kris Gildenlow left.
See, there some of you go. It was that kind of talk that got me to buy Road Salt 2. What a fucking abortion.
I'm pretty much in the same boat. TPE-RL-BE are probably their best. I'd say RS1+2 together comes close to dethroning TPE in that, but anyway those 3 are still objectively the best. I love both RS1 and 2 and really don't get why people seem to hate 1 so damned much and now suddenly love 2. They don't sound all that different at all. I mean they could be one album if they were arranged slightly different. I think people just let Daniel's douche-ness get in the way of good music sometimes, and it's wore off enough that they can appreciate RS2 now. I don't know.
I know, I think people are just desensitized now. 2 really is no different from 1, so there's nothing new to adjust to.
For me I was kind of the opposite. I love RS1 but when I first got RS2 I think I wanted a bigger change (though I shouldn't have expected one).
I don't like RS1 save a few tracks, but I really like RS2, except for Conditioned and Mortar Grind. The reason why I react so differently to the two albums is that, while both are sonically similar, I just find the songwriting on 2 far better, the melodies more interesting, and the overall sound more cohesive. Unlike RS1 where you suddenly get a wtf-track like Sleeping Under the Stars (which I've always hated).
Oh, it is. But it's not on the ordinary version of RS2, so it didn't affect my original impression of the record.
yeah Johan was definitely the cornerstone of the band, even though he didn't write a single note and played what he was told to, but yeah fuck it!
same key, same chord progression and same melody sure != a ripoff i don't mind though, i consider it more like a "heavy homage"
