Welcome to every day of my last two summers, except it's single malt scotch and usually a pipe.

If I had any single malt scotch, I would have had that. Unfortunately, I am currently out and too poor to buy another bottle of good quality single malt.

Still, the falling snow was awesome.

Yeah, it sounds pretty great. The best part about experiences like those with friends is where neither of you say anything for ten minutes. I've got a buddy who is my roommate now and we've always had that. Not every time we step out, but once a week or so, we'll both sit and smoke our pipes in dead silence for a while. It's great.

I <3 comfortable silences. Expecially with cigars.

    Maybe the ultimate win?

Though a solitary smoke is amazing at times.

For instance, right now I am in Jamaica with the 'rents, and it's about midnight. Half an hour ago, I stepped out quickly and watched a tropical storm from the terrace, with a Panter (I know, shitty) half-cornona (I know, tiny) and a couple of bottles of Red Stripe and some Capsa&Rusko playing. Amazing.

Bought three cigars + a cutter for me and two friends to smoke on new year's. I can't remember off the top of my head what they are (all three are different) but they smell greeaaaaat.

    awesome.

the camaraderie was the thing that got me in to smoking cigars, because the first one i had tasted awful. :D

    awesome. celebratory cigars ftw.

    are they dark? light? medium?

i prefer medium/full personally, but a well crafted light body can hit the spot on occasion.

One of them is dark, and the other two are medium. I just remembered that one of them is a Montecristo but I still can't remember what the other two are. I'll check later (they're in my car).

    nice.

i've had quite a few Montecristos, but cubans.

dunno how the non-cubans are. i'd imagine pretty good considering the price.

Yeah, it is cuban. All three of them are. They were around $20 each.

    of fuck yeah.

are they all a decent size?

the little corona ones that are easiest to find are usually pretty poor quality and wrapped too tight.

but for $20 a pop i imagine you got some torpedoes or churchhills on your hands, and everyone i've had of those sizes were excellent. :tup

i forgot you're in a civilized country that doesn't criminalize it's citizens for indulging in a fine cuban cigar. xP

It doesn't criminalise you, but it does tax the shit out of you. They're just ordinary coronas. Don't seem too tightly wrapped though.

just had one of the new La Flor Dominica Air Benders (6x60!!) and it was fucking wonderful.

smoked it for 3 and a half hours, and it was good to the final puff. <3

also had a Padron 2000 last night, and it was tasty.

Zorb, did you smoke the Tribute yet? :hyper

Yes, I had it on Friday night. It was nice, much nuttier and smoother than anything I've had before.

Turned 18 today, grabbed a friend and went to a local cigar store. I asked for something mild and was recommended a Rocky Patel Vintage 1999. Then we drove around and went to a park. It was good :) Although I think I should have gotten something a little bit stronger.

    good one. :tup

i agree with the tobacconist though, it's best to start off with lighter cigars to get the hang of smoking and develop your palette, working up to the stronger more full bodied smokes.

    oh and happy birthday. :D

a new cigar lounge opened a couple weeks ago, and i've already established myself as a regular. i am so happy about it, and am working on getting a part time job there. :yay

The worst thing was that the wrapper started to come apart around the middle which was a bit of a pain in the ass. But after it burned past that it was easy going again.

i also keep a spare cutter at work and in my car, in case i forgot to grab the one at home. :tup

So last week I picked up a small vanilla flavoured cigar. Half corona, I think.

Anyway, in about an hour and a half I'll be meeting up with a bunch of people and heading to a 10pm-5am dubstep night called Subdub. It will be amazing, I've been to it before (on every month) it's probably the best place atmosphere-wise I've ever been to. So real and raw. One hard-dnb-dubstep room, one bigger dub-reggae-roots-step room.

    The clincher?

The massive outside area, full of people on all kinds of uppers, everybody understandably friendly, sharing whatever they have, having the most amazing chats with random people... (I don't know how this place stays open - the bouncers sell coke, mdma, meth in the toilets. It's nuts).

Point is, at around midnight I'll set aside half an hour or so just to smoke this thing outside. I considered going for my massive new Supremo-size cigar, but I figured that would be a bit extreme. It should still be a lovely smoke though, probably end up passing it around quite a bit to get some curious people into cigars, which will be a nice feeling too I think.

I kind of want to get another cigar but that last one was like 8 bucks with tax so I dunno. What are some other mild-mediumish cigars that are good for nubs and maybe aren't expensive as balls?

I had a Alec Bradley SCR today. It was quite good except it also started coming unraveled. Goddammit.

go for an Oliva O Series. it's a solid medium body, and was Cigar Aficionados' "Cigar of the Year" a few years ago.

Oliva's are pretty solid across the board, and between 4-7 bucks a pop. :tup

Also, me and my friends were all smoking what were supposedly very strong cigars, but none of us felt any sort of effect from the nicotine. Is this normal or are we just manly as fuck?

there are a lot of other factors to consider, such as: had you eaten a big meal? how fast were you smoking it? were you drinking water? were you spitting, or swallowing your saliva?

and different cigars also hit different people...differently.

    what were they?

I don't know what my friends were smoking, but I had an Alec Bradley SCR. I think both of my friends were smoking Alec Bradley cigars too, but different ones. Actually I know one of them was a Maxx EGO or something like that. It was like 9.5 inches lol.

while i've not smoked those, they're only supposed to be meduim/full smokes. so strong, but not "HOLY FUCKING SHIT" strong.

if you want one of those, get a La Flor Dominica Double Ligero or Air Bender, or a Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970. those will put some damnshitfucking hair on your chest. :hat

Onyx is ok, but they're usually one of the mass-produced cigars you find at a gas station, along with Macanudo and Arturo Fuente. never been too impressed by any of them.

they have some pricier stuff, but i've not tried any of those.

me at a recent Kristoff cigar event at my local shop.

that's a Kristoff Sumatra, which might be one of my favorites right now. so rich and full flavored, with a little hint of sweetness and nuts.

    fucking great.

Mistamarko played at a cigar event last week and snagged a few cigars for free. The other day, we smoked an Ancient Warrior. I'd never heard of them, but they were great.

haha, well in that case, i'd say get the cherry one, 20 cigar capactiy isn't very big at all, even though it's the sleeker-looking of the two.

EDIT: and they're pretty easy and cheap to get separately.

i'd recommend getting a digital hygrometer too, the analog ones are spiffy to look at, but notoriously inaccurate.

Hey quick question in this old-ass thread. I smoke cigars pretty rarely (maybe once-twice a month) but my grandmother somehow got a bunch of those grape flavored ones for free. I don't have a humidor, nor do I plan on buying one, so how long will they last if they're kept in the plastic tubes and a closed ziploc bag? I'm just hoping they don't become infested with those little bug things.

Never kept cigars in those tubes more than a month. But never had a problem with bugs or dry cigars.

Don't know for sure, but i guarantee a month from experience.

Also...maaaan, i really want one so bad right now. Where you live, maybe it's closer than my closest 7/11 :tard

I can get these same exact things for $.99 at my local smoker's discount store but hopefully they last long enough to enjoy at least a couple. I'll hand them out to homeless people.
