Some of you might remember me talking about my best friend, who I have feelings for. I had basically resigned myself to being in the friend zone for the time being because she's a really great friend and I don't want to fuck that up, but every now and then she comes out with this really weird stuff and I don't really know how to take it. She's recently started dating a guy, and tonight we were hanging out with another person, and she says 'It's like I have two boyfriends, one I have sex with, and one I don't.' I just laugh it off and say 'I feel like I'm getting the raw deal here' but inside I'm like 'What the fuck is so wrong with me that I'm basically like your boyfriend but you don't want to have sex with me?'

if you've never experienced the friend zone, nerd or not, I don't think you've ever actually spoken to a woman. FZ has less to do with your nerdiness or unattractiveness, and more to do with the complexity of interacting with women.

Hey I don't pretend that I'm exempt from this. But realizing that the truth was "girls aren't attracted to me" instead of "girls just don't see that I'm better for them than that other asshole" was a big step. It gives me motivation to go to the gym and dress well when I leave the house.

Also "attractive" doesn't just mean "handsome". In my opinion girls make up their mind about wanting to sleep with a guy within about 5 minutes and 99.9% of the time that opinion never changes.

Tristan, you can't say that "girls aren't attracted to me" as though that's something that's stable. A girl's attraction to you depends on YOU presenting yourself as attractive, not on her passively receiving your attractiveness. You can be ugly as fuck and still present yourself in a way that will be "attractive" to women.

That's my point exactly. I wasn't getting "friend zoned", I was trying to get by on being a close friend and good listener (like many introverted people do). Now I have realized that you need to make some effort instead of just being an alternative to the asshole boyfriend/hookup.

Anyway, I don't think I've ever been close enough with a girl to even be friend zoned, except once which did result in a relatinoship. I usually just stop pursuing a girl after I'm positive they're not attracted to me, or until they yell at me for being creepy

Instead of waiting to find out if they're attracted to you, MAKE them attracted to you. Confidence, humor, and the way you present yourself matter more than almost anything else.

I mean, I haven't read this thread regularly in awhile, but usually things seem to come down to overthinking or building up too much anticipation for something that's not there. To quote 40-year-old virgin, "putting the pussy on a pedestal". I'm mostly trying to be serious here so I get that "oh this coming from you" is funny and all, but I'm not pretending I am doing well with girls. It's just that attitude tends to matter more than saying the right thing or planning the perfect date or any shit like that.

My friend Pat took a girl on two dates, and then told her "hey, I like you, we should be together". She loved his confidence and honesty, and they dated for nearly a year.

I know that it's easy to sit back and "preach" and that actually feeling good about yourself takes some work. But I think that presenting as confident and self-assured should be the goal, instead of having the right thing to say or winning over the "friend zone" girl. It's possible to just be good enough that girls want you, instead of having to trick them into overlooking your faults.
