I hate being stupid when it comes to the female species. Women's purpose on earth is to ruin men's hopes, dreams, and aspirations. That's why I said I'm not gonna pursue any for the foreseeable future, so I can concentrate on the things that are important to me.

But that asian girl that works across the hall is so . I just can't get her out of my system. I already tried to make things go somewhere with her last year, and did not have success. And when it seemed like she backed off due to me expressing too much interest, I felt kind of free like I didn't have to think about her anymore. But lately she's been coming by and talking to me lots again and now I'm getting stupid again. So much about her is attractive to me... she's small and petite like a 13-year-old (with a face like one, too!) even though she's 25, quiet and polite although not really shy, into science and good at math (lol asian), and she smiles sometimes when talking to me that has a kind of warmth to it that makes me think about how I would want my wife to smile at me after getting old together. It's weird, though, because I don't actually think about sex with her that often (although sometimes)... mostly I just really want to hug her close and tenderly and feel her hair in my face.

So a few things. First of all, be proud that you're able to ask girls out. Sadly that's more advanced than a lot of your peers and WILL be of value to you at some point.

Obviously we can't really say what you're doing wrong since we know so little. You can provide more information if you'd like, though it would be hard from only your perspective to figure things out. Also, I hope you've considered that it's FAR more likely than not that you're doing nothing wrong -- just accept that not everyone is going to like you. Ask out other girls and eventually one will say yes and it will evolve into something worthwhile.

Well, I just started a new job a couple of weeks ago and there's a chick working there, who is also in one of my classes, that I was immediately attracted to. Seemed like a compatible personality, we get along really well, etc. It was one of those things where I already knew what her answer was gonna be somehow, but I would have kicked myself for not giving it a shot. When a girl knows she's desirable like this one is, she automatically steps up to the rung of the ladder that's just plain inaccessible to me. I left it on good terms, I wasn't like "Fine then, fuck you and your whole family!"

I'll just have to wait and see how much the awkwardness level increases now when I see her around.

Can you describe the interactions you've had with her prior to asking her out? More than just "she laughed".

Also, I'm sure there's a more eloquent way to describe this (I think it's some proverb), but basically when a farmer plants a seed for corn, he doesn't expect to get barley from it and has no reason to. The same goes for thoughts like "I already knew what her answer was gonna be" and "inaccessible". When you plant those thoughts in your mind, there's no possible good to come from that.

I haven't really known her that long so we haven't had tons of interactions. I was asking her out so that I could get to know her more, since the only real time I see her is right after class for five minutes and a few times a day at work.

Although I'm convinced I have mild Asperger's because I can't pick up on social cues all that well. I seem to impress her with my witticisms and she laughs/touches/all that shit and then I ask her to hang out outside of school and I can see the gears turning in her head saying "Oh shit, how do I let this poor guy down softly?" The most popular response under pressure seems to be "I have to write an essay" or "I have a ton of homework". I almost avoid asking any girls out just to spare them the agony of that moment.

I might be in my 50s by then.

There was a movie we've both been talking about and I was like "So I'm probably going to see that movie tonight...you have any plans?" It was pretty awkward (classic nafgorp) but I thought it was a perfect set-up and everything.

And the touching thing wasn't too a big of a deal to me because I witnessed her hug and touch the knees of like 18 guys in a matter of minutes. She's just the touchy type I guess.

Been hooking up with my best friend...she's very attractive and ridiculously smart. But we can't decide if we want to date or not. Honestly, I don't even know...unless we get married and live happily ever after, I'd be fucking up what is definitely a lifelong friendship.

Ah...well yeah I think just focus on what I said earlier. I know it's against your nature -- but no reason to think you did anything wrong here. Just flat out not everyone will like you that way...so this girl is a new friend and you'll find a new girl in a day or two to try to pursue in that way. No biggie.

I was in a situation like that before and after a little while it felt like I was fucking my sister. Sex stopped soon after that and the friendship fizzled away.

the important thing is to not dwell on the incredibly agonizing fact of life that there is a rough sort of scale of attractiveness and some people (perhaps me, or others in the thread) will have less of a probability than others of finding an attractive person who reciprocally considers you an option in that regard. remember that the ultimate happiness comes not from high batting average but each individual hit that is achieved.

My situation exactly. I was living with my best friend and two other room mates for about 6 months before she and I just exploded into love. Deciding to keep it up just seemed completely natural at the time (although for a period of a few weeks, we thought we were going to have an open relationship HA!)

Best relationship I've ever been in. We get on amazingly, the sex is great and more or less can't disappoint each other because we've been extremely close as friends for so long.
