who do you think is more awesome? more progressive? greater musicians? greater lyrics? both are my favorite progressive bands and they're both from england

overall, who do you think is better?

    I'd say Oceansize

Porcupine Tree are quite hit or miss with their stuff, but for the most part Oceansize's material is always top notch.

    I'm going with Oceansize.

I need to listen to Oceansize. Where to start? And are they comparable to PT in terms of vocal style and whatnot? I would just jump on youtube and listen to them but I'm at school and don't have any headphones atm.

download everything from them, they have just realized 3 studio albums, and several EPs.. start with effloresence, then everyone into position, then frames..

or you can just start with frames, seeing how it's their best album

they're comparable to PT in terms of style, not so much in vocals but they're far more enjoyable than wilson's voice, and far more progressive and deeper lyrics and overall majestic structures in songs.. and they're far better than them IMO

After listening to Frames a couple of times, I can't say that I like these guys better than Porcupine Tree when they're at their best. It's definitely good but a few parts almost had me falling asleep, mostly the instrumentals. I've never been a huge fan of Radiohead either though so I guess my subconscious is just connecting the two.

Oceansize is by no means an easy band to get into. But once you do, you'll be rewarded with heavens.

I'm in deep love with them for maybe 6 months now, and I still get amazed by Frames every time I listen to it (probably 2 or 3 times a day average).

Porcupine Tree compared to Oceansize is rather bland and boring stuff.

Stupid Dream and Sky Moves Sideways are far more enjoyable to me than any of oceansizes output. That's pretty much what I was thinking.

Porcupine Tree still has old time favourite credit for me, but I'm loving Oceansize a lot more atm so went for them. Still not a definite answer though.

Oceansize are what I think Porcupine Tree should sound like, had they actually progressed beyond the Deadwing sound.

Anyone who voted for PT has not yet posted on this thread.

I'm wondering they don't know Oceansize well and are hiding themselves. Hopefully some of them will grab Frames and give it a listen.

I've listened to all albums of both bands many times. Oceansize has much higher quality material, though not as much total material as PT. I would rather listen to an Oceansize album than a PT album.

    Porcupine Tree.
Being my favorite band, and the fact that i got floored by the first songs i heard with them.
Only got 1 cd with Oceansize, even though being really good, i didn't have the same effect.

The only Oceansize song that I enjoyed was Unravel. Then I realised it was actually a piece by Maurice Ravel. So I deleted the album and just put on Ravel instead.

This song alone is twice as good as anything PT have done, and I love PT.

Also, Steven Wilson would probably agree that Oceansize is the better band.

yeah I would think that.. I don't know why I didn't ask him what he thought about Oceansize when I met him like 3 days ago, but I'm pretty sure (seeing as his musical views are pretty much the ones of a true musician) he would agree that overall, Oceansize are better

who knows thought, but yeah I agree also about Ornament/The Last Wrongs
