If there is one album even REMOTELY representative for the 90s it's this one.

I love every single track on it and cannot get tired of it.

It's great. A lot of people will probably not like it as much because of it being mainstream/popular but you just have to disregard all that and enjoy their music. After all these years I've still got a 1.5 meter poster of Kurt hanging on my door :)

It's pretty good. "Territorial Pissings" is pure noise rock brilliance.

Definitely a good solid album. In Utero is Nirvan's best album though.

Nirvana was the band that got me into music. I don't enjoy them much anymore, but they're still special to me.

Edit: and yes.. in utero is the superior album imo.

Yeah, In Utero is amazing too. Although I think Nevermind is more consistent, In Utero has better highlights.

It's a pretty good album, a bit overrated, but that doesn't really bother me. Kurt could write solid music is for sure. And yeah, "Territorial Pissings" may be the best track on the album along with "In Bloom," "Breed," and "Drain You." Now, is it just me, or are half the songs on this album singles?

    Good album, overrated, but good.

    In Utero demolishes it though.

In Utero might be a better album, actually, but this one sticks in your head better. Can't argue with this song though, off Insecticide:

So, I caught Classic Albums: Nevermind on Netflix and have been on a 2 week binge of this album. As a 12 year-old at the time who hated (for the most part) hair metal and gangsta rap, this album completely changed my world - I was THE alternative kid on the block when Nevermind happened. What I didn't realize then is just how good of a band Nirvana was in terms of their songwriting and performance. It's not easy to keep something simple and remain so engaging just by virtue of the sound and execution. A truly great album (followed by another great album as well).

I really don't get what the big deal is with this band. I could name a half dozen bands that played this style of grunge better.

this is one of the very few albums this is simultaneously overrated and underrated. on one hand, it is certainly not the greatest album ever, nor is it the best album of the 90s or all-time, or whatever (same for "smells like teen spirit"). however, every track is great, the drumming is fucking awesome, and the songs are great fake pop songs influenced by the pixies and the melvins. rad stuff!

I did recently develop a respect for Grohl's drumming that wasn't there before. When you compare it to similar bands, it's easy to hear how much energy he brings to a recording.

If you're asking me, 26. Age has no relevance as to what bands in a certain genre I find to be better.

Alice In Chains and Soundgarden are leaps and bounds better than Nirvana.

Was Nevermind good for its time and a staple for 90's music, yes? Is it extremely overrated? Yes.

    * "good for its time" = signifying the end to hair metal and all that shit.

Never heard the album apart from a few songs. However, I do have From the Muddy Banks of Whiskah" somewhere. I can't remember how it is though. Grunge is one of those genres the world could have been without.

Not very appreciative I guess. :ponder

Also I thought it was hilarious that there is a baby's penis on the album cover. I remember asking my mom for it, then her complaining about it after she had bought it and was about to give it to me, but then she gave it to me anyway because at that point in time I already had some pretty raunchy music at my disposal, (this was before I figured out how to internet), because my grandma bought me "The Chronic" when I was like 6 because she saw that it was popular with the younginz.

tight riffs and angular 80s melodies backed by (super)tight drumming and completely irrelevant and off-base lyrics. sounds like every awesome indie band that ever made a record in the late 80s? cause it basically is that formula.

    Still a great album.

I find it strange when people refer to grunge as a style of music - I always thought it was more to do with how they dressed/looked, rather than anything musical.

If you listen to the four most successful 'grunge' bands (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, AiC), they each had their own distinct sound, and weren't similar at all.

Grunge threads are worse than Metallica/Megadeth threads.

What do AiC or Soundgarden have to do with this record? Why can't this useless discussion be left out?

This is the album that got me into music back when I was around 11. Overall though I much prefer In Utero, but this is still easily one of the best pop rock albums of all time. The production still sounds amazing to this day.

this album and that aerosmith album with the pierced cow udder. what the hell.

EDIT: get a grip. prolly a better album than nevermind, even though they were both pretty bad.
