New album out May 19. I posted something about it a couple of days ago in the 2009 release thread. Anybody as excited as me?
The album art might be my favorite one so far. Also, I can't wait. At first I was sad to hear about the new direction, but I'm getting really psyched for it and I'm glad I'll have an idea of what to expect so I'm not all bummed when I hear it and can listen to it with a clean palate.
Apparently they're taking a more simpler, melodic approach with this album, while also including classical elements. Should be interesting...This is def one of my most anticipated of 09
No song has ever brought me to tears, but In A Sweater Poorly Knit made me feel like it was a possibility.
Same here. I think hearing the new songs live will have both braced us for the new style and given us something that will probably sound a lot cooler with the complete arrangements.
O, Porcupine > The Soviet > In A Sweater Poorly Knit. "Turn your ear, musician, to silence because they only come out when it's quiet, - their tails brushing over your eyelids - oh, wake up, sleeper, and rise from the dead, or the fur that they shed will cover your bed in delicate orange-ish cinnamon red, - ah, I don't need this! I have my loves, I have my doubts. I don't need this."
"i ask the same questions, i know i ask the same questions, well maybe i repeat myself from time to time, sometimes i ask the same questions, but that's because everyone who answers me is a liar..."
Musically In A Sweater is my favorite, but lyrically Four Word Letter (Pt. 2) takes the cake. From the nihilistic and insignificant beginnings to the attempts of finding purpose in fashion and image. The wailing provided by Scott Krueger of The Psalters says so little yet so much. It's complete surrender. What follows is what I still consider to be Aaron's most powerful lyrics. A wick to fit the wax, wood to fit the wire You strike the match, why not be utterly changed to fire? To sacrifice the shadow and the mist of a brief life you never much liked? So if you'd care to come along, we're gonna curb all our never-ending, clever complaining, As who's ever heard of a singer criticized by his song? Though we hunger, though all that we eat brings us little relief, We don't know quite what else to do; We have all our beliefs, but we don't want our beliefs... God of Peace, we want You. This perfectly describes what I felt near the end of my walk. The desperation and willingness to leave it all and follow Him. I wanted so badly to completely surrender, but I couldn't. I guess that's why Aaron's ability to do so is still so touching to me.
I dunno. I love In a Sweater Poorly Knit, but I usually just find their vocals annoying. I'll check it out I guess.
I have a feeling you'll love this one. From the few songs I saw live last summer, it will be much more akin to that sound.
