You're right, my bad. Yeah I take back that post, please disregard. I agree with you, it happens a lot and people, including me, shouldn't say shit like that
Not disagreeing, just curious about why you think this would help. The playoff system is still vastly superior to the current system. It works for every other major sport including nearly all if not all college sports. Yes it would not be perfect because it would lead to the occasional inferior will win (i.e. 2007/2008 NYGiants) but a) those underdog teams DESERVE their wins by playing consistenly hard competition and b) lose to superior teams more often than they win. A 4 or 8 team system works much better than a 2 team system which seems to leave out at least one good team every year.
yup. if the nfl had 120 teams, and one championship game based on basically arbitrary rankings, people would go absolutely fucking apeshit.
I tend to think that there would be sufficient profit incentive for powerhouse programs to schedule each other a few times during the regular season. i realize this wouldn't always result in relevant matchups, but if nothing else, it would at least be helpful in determining the strength of each conference Also - I'd actually be OK with a 4 team playoff, but i think anything bigger than that would just fuck up a lot of stuff.
A four team playoff would also fall in line with the schedule that the higher ups are so anal about keeping the same. 1st round around New Years, Championship next weekend.
Not so sure about that. It seems like since they added a fourth non-conference game to the schedule, most teams schedule a complete patsy (usually a FCS tam) instead of a real program. Although I'd love to see more marquee match ups like college basketball.
this is true, but i can't help but feel like this would be an easy fix if the ncaa or whoever would just do something about it, like mandating teams to schedule at least 2 or 3 teams from AQ conferences, or something along those lines. i dunno. i'm not trying to set forth some kind of model for how it should be done, i just mean to illustrate that extensive inter-conference play in the regular season could help solve people's gripes while avoiding the drawbacks of a playoff system
If the NFL had 120 teams, the NFL bosses would just divide all the teams up into 8 divisions of 15 teams, have all the teams play 14 games in their divisions to determine division champions as well as some out-of-division games. The 8 division champions would then have a 3-round playoff. This is what the NCAA ought to do too, but the NCAA doesn't have enough top-down power to force all the conferences to agree with it. It's a bit feudal, all things considered.
so apparently chip kelly is leaving us to coach tampa bay fuck have fun with your zero competition next year, usc
Seems like a precursor for NCAA sanctions. This smells like Pete Carroll. And UCLA man...those loonies think they have a legitimate shot at the Pac 12 South title... Anyways, I'm saving my money for Pasadena/Miami.
yeah that's what everyone is saying. It would explain Darron Thomas leaving early when he's clearly not ready for the NFL. And even LaMichael for that matter. Days after the rose bowl he kept saying that no amount of money would come before his happiness, and that he was really happy here. Probably got wind of something stinky brewin and pieced out. Can't blame him We had our fun :-(
If you guys snatch Petersen, you guys are set.... Assuming we win the conference next year, who the hell wins it the following year?! I feel like it's going to be wide open!
