This is really fucking cool. They bury more melodious little parts deep in the back of the mix, and it makes it really intense. I like :hat

i finally paid attention to them...and fucking hell they're great.

huge discog for how short a time they've been around (nine albums and two EP's in six years!)

i bought Radiance of Shadows and Touched (Re-Release) the second i saw them mentioned in a review for The Angelic Process, and then proceeded to download everything i could find.

the weight of worlds resides in this band.

    my mistake.

everything i've listened to so far (Touched (Re-Release), Radiance of Shadows, Corrasian, Body Cage, Thaumogenesis, Guilted By the Sun) has been golden.

Guilted By the Sun is a good starting point since it's an EP and dosen't require as much investment of time and attention.

Body Cage and Truth Becomes Death are the best ones. Aidan is a sly dog.

They're great, but I get the impression that all they do to record their albums is run extremely slow single-note drones through a Big Muff and add bad drums.

what has happened is that you are deaf, and then next you should go listen to Aidan's solo stuff, and note the absence of any heavy guitar at all. Whilst doing this, notice what ELSE is going on, then later come back to Nadja and feel stupid for missing so much of what is going on. k?

    THANKS YOU.

And for the record, I know there's more going on in the music, but the early stuff like Touched was very Muff-heavy.

Aidan Baker – Lost in the Rat Maze

Aidan Baker needs no introduction: this prolific Canadian classically trained multi-instrumentalist has generously contributed to the doom/drone/ambient genre. Nadja, Arc and Whisper Room are just a few of his manifestations.
As a solo artist he also composed quite an impressive backcatalogue. Consouling Sounds is proud to add another release to that list, as we're quite confident this one will stand out in this discography.
With Lost in the Rat Maze Aidan Baker produces an unconventional album - even to Baker-standards. Having been known for his extensive ambient soundscapes, Baker chose a different approach to his sound weaving - albeit true to the "Bakersound".
In stead of a densely layered and broad sound palette, Baker has almost embraced a "postrockish" method of composing. More compact, pointed and clear progressions can be discovered, together with a diverse array of instruments, sounds and techniques. Expect the classic Aidan Baker elements: captivating, fascinating and repetitive mesmerizing sounds - but with a different twist to it.

Limited to 900 copies. 100 copies come in an oversized heavy sleeve with three additional photos, taken by Aidan and Leah, from a selection of twelve. 800 copies in a regular jewelcase.

You can pre-order this special oversized edition now for 13,50 euro (p&p worldwide included).
This offer is valid until February 20th or until stock runs out. All pre-orders will be send out in the third week of February.
    Official release date February 25th

Collectors can order a package holding the special limited edition and the regular jewel case edition for 22 euro (p&p worldwide included).

the last slew of his releases have been boring and substandard, so hopefully a new approach will bring some freshness to the table.
