This is a very ignorant statement. "Mario" is not a game. He is a character that has been in three games.
I think a better comparison for discussion might be to compare specific games, such as Super Mario 64 vs Donkey Kong 64 <-- two of the greatest video games ever created
To this day I can still play The original Super Mario Bros. and have a blast. Despite its totally primitive by today's standards appearance, sound, and gameplay, there's just something awesome about the nostalgia of the authentic NES graphics and audio. Playing the SNES versions on SM All-Stars feels sacrilegious with all the annoying steel drum thrown into the soundtrack; feels like Girls Gone Wild commercials are playing or something. Mario 64 is fucking ace though and SM World, when judged in its own time, is probably one of the top 5 flagship games ever. The original DKC was beyond awesome too though when you consider the graphics and sound comfortably outclassed a decent bit of the first 30 or so titles released on the original Playstation despite the SNES obviously being only 16-bit. The water levels had great music too.
I have to agree that the All-Stars version of SMB is butched. I love SMB2 and 3 on All-Stars but the original got a lazy remake. The controls also feel a tad off.
