To all the negative trolls out there that posted nasty comments after my last post asking you all to pick up the AMOB & FC albums, I have done you the favor of blocking you from this page...that post had nothing to do with money!!! I can't believe how rude and nasty (and SERIOUS, with no sense of humour) some of you can be...LIGHTEN UP!! I was merely trying to get you all to *CHECK OUT* my two new albums...I just want to share the music with you all...frankly, I don't care how or where you get it, I just want you to give em a listen! Meanwhile, thank you to the rest of you who GET IT, GET ME and are POSITIVE people with POSITIVE vibes & energy!! I'm very excited about both albums and have been patiently waiting for you to hear them both and am so glad the time is finally here! : )

Get a load of this guy...PLEASE get a social media consultant for the love of god! Someone who can show you the difference between begging your hundreds of thousands of followers to BUY your new albums (a subtle brag hidden in an blatant, desperate plead for money) with something along the lines of "Hey everyone, thanks a lot for checking out the new FC/AMOB albums, I'm so glad you're finally enjoying them! Support/feedback MUCH appreciated!!!"

Of course, he'll be bashed no matter which direction he goes in, but I say stay genuine, professional, and humble.

First, it was Prater. Then, it was Kevin Shirley and the label wanting FII to be more commercial. Now it's the "fans" and the "negative trolls". Mike's always tried to tell us who the bad guys we need to watch out for are, but it becomes less convincing each time he gets up on his soapbox.

Let alone the clashes with his step-father, booze, LaBrie, members of Queensryche, and others that Mike's made very public to us. Mike always acts like the other thing is the problem... maybe Mike's the problem? I never met someone in real life (outside of highschool) who has as many personal problems with himself and other people and his "fans" and "friends" as Mike does. More and more I think alcoholism wasn't his problem, but just another branch of the main problem (that Mike just doesn't know how to not act like a child).

So true. I used to work with a girl who always had problems/drama/a conflict with others, and it was always their fault (according to her), but after a while, it's like, okay, if you are the one constant in all of this crap, then maybe YOU are the problem, not everyone else. Hell, that is Psychology 101. Some people are just really easy to read.

The fucking idiot said he'd be happy if they BOUGHT the cds. Way to backtrack because he accidentally portrayed himself as a little greedy. God damn, man. You don't have to fucking bring attention to the "trolls" by defending yourself. God, I told him how he could make all this go away on dtf.org and he hasn't learned anything.

It's almost like he's baiting to get negative responses so he can bitch about it and swim in the aftermath of positive comments and reassurance designed to stroke his ego. I could also be giving him too much credit.

It's clear that music piracy (and therefore the ability to obtain music and form an objective opinion about it before spending money) is killing the Mike Portnoy industry.

Well, AMOB anyway. I'm very interested in seeing the numbers for Flying Colors once they are available.

Mike Portnoy's life would be approximately 80% more enjoyable and stress-free for him if he would stop reading things about himself on the internet.

The glory days of the MP.com circle-jerk are over, and even some of his most ardent penny-whistle slobberers have turned against him since he broke bad after the DT split.

I follow him on Twitter and FB but never comment on anything and will never spend another dime on this guy. I follow him purely for the schadenfreude fascination of it all. It's continually mindblowing to me that someone who has been in this industry for 25 years has zero clue how to manage his own image at this point. The problem clearly stems from his inability to be honest with himself about the way he's acted. I do have hope that after Estrogen Mob flops and his career hits rock-bottom, he may do some soul-searching and realize that the endless string of middle-fingers he's thrown to his casual fans (and I don't mean the sophomoric picture poses) has really ruined his career.

I doubt that will happen. Mostly because he's been doing this for so long already and has always found enough asskissers to cloud any geniune self-judgement.

The core of the problem is that he is extremely starved for attention. Always was, always will be. In the early days of DT he could get that attention with bringing ProgMetal to the mainstream and showing off like no one showed off before. He has done that for too long and was getting bored with it. Sure, DT sales were on the rise but he just couldn't play with the cool kids. He was so desperate that he was forcing himself into a band which in the end didn't even want him.
So now he's trying it on his own and despite how many people he has pissed off with his egoistical dumbass behaviour he still has enough people telling him he does the right thing. If these people go this far, they will not back down no matter what crazy shit he'll pull. If AMOB bombs, which it inevitably will, he'll simply go on doing other silly things to get people's(our) attention. And occasionally harrass DT with some reunion wishful thinking.

there's just something douchey about the way he asked. If he had just said "Hey guys, go buy my two new albums" it would have been cool, but instead he's like "boy look at all my followers, if only they'd all buy my records"

He's losing his mind. Every other member of AMOB and FC is on Twitter and Facebook. They're just quietly getting on with making music. MP seems hellbent on re-posting every single critical post of him, and his word of the week is very definitely "troll". He thrown it at every person who hasn't unconditionally praised his latest albums.

I wonder if he is able to compare/contrast the first day Flying Colors feedback with the first day (or any day) feedback of Omerta... maybe there's a reason why people like one of his projects and think the other one is shit, besides trolling... maybe one of them is good and the other one isn't.

That being said, do you think flying colors would be at a best buy, or is it too obscure?

Deep down he probably knew that AMOB would flop and FC would do well, so he purposely scheduled the FC album shortly after Omerta, that way he could sort of just lump them together as if they both did well.

Yeah but AMOB will probably sell way more than FC so you can't really call AMOB a flop compared to FC from a sales perspective.

I really doubt that this will happen... how could FC sell way less than 5000 or whatever AMOB is. There seems to be a good amount of interest, including from myself, in buying the thing... whereas I have no idea how AMOB sold a single copy.

well AMOB sold 6600 in its first week. I don't know if or where it charted, but Symphony X's Iconoclast sold I think 7300 and charted somewhere in the top 100 I believe. I don't see Flying Colors charting on the Billboard top 200. I mean yeah we all know it's better than AMOB, but a traditional prog rock album is still a pretty niche thing.

I don't think the flying colors album is too niche, its really one of the most accessible projects I've heard him be a part of. Put it on for a whole bunch of nonmetal heads and everyone was absolutely loving it, probably got a few people to buy the album right there. I won't be surprised if FC ends up doing really well.
