I know the military is full of our best and brightest (LOL), but do soldiers actually understand that they are dying for a corrupt oilman who wins elections fraudulently via kidnapping, threats and murders (sometimes carried out by U.S. commandos and contractors)? Nevermind their asslickers stateside; I honestly wonder if the troops themselves know what they're being sent to die for.

On the plus side, whatever we do will probably make Obozo a one-termer, thus (hopefully) guaranteeing that Palin will be our next president. (fingers crossed)

ahem. That is a long stretch.

Still it sure is nothing to be proud of. I mean your industry is probably satisfied and you got to try some of your new toys, and isn't that the real reason why America has to go to war at least every 10 years?

We've already been in Afghanistan for longer than USA's engagements in both world wars, I think.

I laugh at irony just as much, but every post I've read from you on DTF or here concerning the future of America or just America in general, has been like reading a Hugo Chavez interview. What made you so negative?

I know the exact minute I knew USA was a joke, as far as its foreign policies etc go. Dunno if I'd call it negative, more like cynical.

win what you stupid bitch. I don't think she has any idea of what she's talking about.

they were in fact planned in Germany, lolol. In b4 invade Germany

A terrorist cell can operate from any bloody country in the world. It doesn't need a destabilized fundamentalist society, though that helps

so she thinks by killing people in Afghanistan Pakistan will become stable. :ponder

    it's b/s.

Like I said a terrorist organization can operate out of any country. The cell that planned the attacks on 9/11 (including Mohammed Attar) was based in Germany for years before moving to the US.

Afghanistan also was not a "safe haven", because obviously, the Taliban were not able to protect terrorists inside the country, not in the way of diplomacy, nor in the way of rebuking invaders.

Afghanistan is a side event in the global view of things. The truth is that Afghanistan is a place of economic/ geopolitical interest, which is why the Americans try to secure their foothold there. It is not about terrorism.

The most stupid point of people arguing in favor of a war on terrorism is that you have to invade a country at the other side of the world to prevent terrorist attacks in your home country despite the fact that they're probably already there.

Palin is a retard. The whole mantra that "we have to fight them there or they'll follow us home" is bullshit. There are already sleepers in USA.

a US corporation has recently received 100 million dollars for putting up some miles worth of steel fence. The fence/ construction work was estimated by foreign politicians to be worth about 100000 $. By economic interest I certainly don't mean the average tax payer.

    Another word: Trans-Afghanistan pipeline.

Btw seeing as how Pakistan borders on Afghanistan I'm sure you can see my point as well

That's interesting but it doesn't convince me that the fence making lobby had anything to do with launching the war. I'm sure there are very minor economic factors here and there, but it's nothing like Iraq. Companies will take advantage of war however they can. And btw Afghanistan is/was important economically for Al-Quaeda with all that opium, lol.

it's a company that's doing construction work all around Afghanistan. The whole rebuilding of Iraq/ Afghanistan was largely done by American enterprises. And please don't tell me that you think that lobbyism doesn't have anything to do with a war.

oil and gas aren't minor factors

I think you're distorting the relationship somewhat.

guess what, the harvesting of opium has INCREASED since the American invasion, lol. I think it would be very, very interesting to learn who else except Al Quaida profits from the opium trade.

The fact that American companies are making money in Afghanistan tells me little about why the government launched the war in the first place. Corporations didn't need to act to get the war going; Americans supported it and so did the U.N. (unlike Iraq). The main reason for the war was national security. But I'm sure there are politicians who will support any war, just because they know they can profit from it. If you're going to argue that the main reason for going to Afghanistan was economic, I'd like to see more sources.

Just thougt i'd post this pretty good talk radio epsiode, [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AmdZYT-DL8"]YouTube - Alan Watt: Brzezinski and the creation of global empire 1of4[/ame] this is part 1 of 4 parts, in it there is alot of exposure of how the war in Afghanistan was really started, and what for, etc. Transcript for those interested: http://www.cuttingthroughthematrix....Before_Your_Eyes--Destabilize_June252009.html

It talks alot about geo-politcs and psycho-politics.

Psycho-politics is a very old technique of destabilization of countries over a long period of time.

In the radio show links are given to YouTube where "Brzezinski gives a talk about the Iranian revolution that’s going on right now. He talks about it in geo-political and psycho-political terms. He also says some amazing things. He can’t help but boast, being the good psychopath. This man has made his career on subterfuge."
    ...
Also in there is a link where you hear Brzezinski "back in the 70s talking to the leaders in Afghanistan telling them to create the holy war and that God was with them. This guy, who has no care about any God, tells them that God is with them. They wanted a holy Jihad because they were fighting the Soviets at that time."
    ...
"The CIA created the problem in Afghanistan. However, with geo-politics, they’d already had it figured out, long before he gave that talk to the Afghanistanis, how long they’d use them for. They also knew the problem they’d have at the end of it with this organized army. They also knew they’d have to flatten them as well. That’s true geo-politics. You use a group and you dispose of them. That’s how it really, really does work. That’s what the CIA and MI6 and Mossad and all these groups do. That’s what their job is, to go in through subterfuge and destabilized countries."
    etc.

I'm proud to say I've never supported a phony politician or voted in any phony election con-game.

I don't even support Ron Paul.

Politics is just for the public to believe in. It's the hegelian dialectic.

I have a hard time understanding how people actually believe socialism is a good thing. Sure there is the guise of it being all philanthropic and "for the people" and what not, but that's not what it's about in reality - which is evident throughout history. Not that capitalism is much or any better.

Have you seen the documentary 'The Soviet Story"? Despite the obvious bias, and a few minor errors/misquotes (there's a few misquotes attributed to marx that were actually from someone else), the documentary is definitely worth it, great expose on socialism.

I'd prefer a mixed economy, that combines the current capitalist culture with strict regulations and a gigantic socialist safety net. I think in USA's quest to be #1 superpower, we have allowed ourselves to become a paper tiger. A country cannot sustain itself in the long run if wealth only accumulates at the top. It should be spread evenly so the whole economy benefits. Even the so-called progressive Obama doesn't believe this.

How dare he play poli.tics with the lives of our service people. Treasonous.

Obama should send 40,000 or so troops over and do the surge properly, but I'm worried he might send as few as possible to please his moronic supporters who think it's okay to go and fuck up a country and just pull out abruptly so we can "bring our boys home".

Also, a genuine question about people discussing the reasons for the war, how can American companies making money in Afghanistan suggest an incentive for the war when the war is costing the country such a profound amount of money (a genuine question, not a criticism)?

I'm not a supporter of Dubya The 2nd (anymore) nor do I care about "brang teh boiz home" (they can all rot for all I care). I just think he talked up the "good war" Afghanistan during the campaign to slap Chimpy and "butch up." Now the dog has caught up to the car which is now being driven by Karzai, a U.S.-financed drug lord who has his own stable of U.S. commandos paid to kidnap and kill his political opponents. Basically Obama is stuck with sending 40k troops to prop up, not take down, a Saddam Hussein. Or he could the right thing and GTFO (unlikely with this guy).

As to the 2nd part, ppl should go to concerts to listen to the singer, not sing over them.

The war is paid for out of taxpayer money. Politicians and their corporate friends don't care if taxpayer money gets spent, as long as spending it makes them rich. Also, American hegemony is believed to be good for American business.

Who in their right mind ever believed that Obama was a progressive? He talked like one during the campaign, but you really can't believe anything a candidate says when they're campaigning. I thought that was common knowledge in this country.
