Pro tools, logic, reaper, it's not like any of them are so dramatically different that you can't pick it up...
ya its pretty funny how most DAWs function a very similar way, I'm sure you'd know this with the extensive time you've put into them Talon. Your huge repertoire is also a testament to your knowledge and expertise.
Any chance on some feedback on this song? http://soundcloud.com/sondre_skyblazer/moron-police-isnt-it-easy-1 It's a bit dynamic (lol, dynamics) So i'm having a hard time getting the balance right! I think the guitar solo section is where it suffers the most (might be because of the sucky solo, tho) Other than that, the song isn't done, so you know... any suggestions welcome!
It feels like three songs. The first section in particular is really out of place. Synth breakdown is also pretty wtf but at least it kind of fits in somehow. I think that the singing intro could have the guitar turned up so it isnt so quiet next to the main bit. I like the volume for the ending. I noticed those two bits have the same vol, but i like the dynamic shift more coming out than i do going in, ya dig? The guitar solo is awesome. I love the main song idea in here, really kickass.
Thanks! The three song feel is kinda intentional... the end part is a reprise of a melody from the song before it. The out of place heavy thing in the beginning is supposed to be a bit wtf, as it's the first thing heard after a ska song. I agree with the going in level thing. I put a low-pass filter on the guitar to make it sound.... hipster? Then i did that on the vocal too, but removed it later, guess that might have been a bad choice :P Anyways, thanks a bunch!
I actually liked those effects (incl the reverb/echo)though, because they make the intro feel more chill and distant, then it comes in full force. It is actually good as it is i would just raise that part a tad since the fx already give it that quiet feel to begin with.
and after you've done that, hurry up and finish the Sky Bear album so I can hear my sexual bass parts come to fruition god damn
yesssss Man I spent like an hour listening to your songs on soundcloud last night (including the one with me on it hah), some of them multiple times. Pumped to hear more.
So 2 nights ago I was out with some friends and I spilled a half pint of beer all over my shirt and pants and was like "FUUUUUUUU" but luckily it was this girl's birthday and she had a hotel room for the night pretty close by so I went back there to blow-dry my shit so I could keep partying. I was all fucking pissed in the hotel room, walkin' around naked (I was alone) blow-drying shit for like an hour, but then I remembered how awesome "Isn't it Easy" is so I put that shit on repeat on the little speaker that came with the room and listened like the whole time I was dryin off and my mood improved greatly and the night was a success. It's been stuck in my head since, and that's a good thing. In other news, I just wrote a cool riff and I think I'll post it here. I just got Superior Drummer 2.0 and some of these free plugins http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/ in addition to Guitar Rig 4 so I've been messing with guitar sounds n shit. I'm kind of a retard when it comes to that stuff so I'll get a soundcloud real quick so you guys can give me some feedback.
I forgot my bandpage thing on facebook uses soundcloud so I already had one alright guys, go easy on me http://soundcloud.com/clonston/new-riff-you-guys
That put some weird images in my head, but fuck yeah man, awesome! And riff is pretty badass! Gotta get me dat superior drummah
So I'm expanding that riff into a full song, here's a sample (didn't really know where else to post it) http://soundcloud.com/clonston/cosmos I still want to change a few guitar parts but I like where it's headed I kind of suck at making shit sound good, so any tips would help. Right now it's just really loud, oh and the shitty panning of the piano was an accident that I fixed after I bounced this. Thinking about putting some sort of nerdy sample of carl sagan or something at the beginning
That was pretty damn cool, dude! I think it sounds fine, maybe a bit too much hihat, but that's about it for me
Recorded/mixed this live in-studio video this week: Also, a record I engineered just came out: http://hannahread.bandcamp.com/album/wrapped-in-lace
http://soundcloud.com/you/tracks Recorded this yesterday. I seem to have consistent trouble mixing my vocals into my tracks. Does anyone have any advice?
If anything I think the vocals get buried. They sounded fine on my cans but on my monitors (no acoustic treatment in room) they were competing with the kick somehow. Compress the vox more, and try scooping the kick in the low mids. (and if there's no mid info in the kick then shrug lol)
I didn't really hear that when I listened. If anything, he could try a really subtle sidechain comp. on the kick
There's a sidechain comp on the drum bus and on the bass as well so the bass in the vocals isn't fighting with the heavy bass-line and massive kick (though I didn't go overboard with it - compression is something I don't have the greatest knack for, if that makes sense). I do think the kick could use some tweaking. I appreciate you guys listening. I've been getting all angsty and melodramatic because of the way vocals seem to bellow in the mix (ideally, I want them to kind of be apart of the whole wall-of-sound thing). If it's not so glaringly obvious to others, I can probably relax a bit It's interesting you have that reaction, Talon. It's in my cans I think the vocals bellow. They kind of fit in my monitors. Seriously, though. Hugely appreciate some other ears.
Be careful with reverb in a hip hop vocal track. The syllables are too fast and a long reverb will just wash over everything. Working with a nice pre-delay and spacing out the early reflections will push the vocal up front. Other than that, the vocal is very thin sounding but that was probably stems from the recording process. If it's not recorded properly there's not much you can do to save it other than some heavy EQ tricks.
